Urge American Apparel to Produce a Plus-Size Clothing Line!

  • by: Izzy Okaya

There is nothing more frustrating, as a plus size consumer, than shopping for clothes that simply don't fit or flatter me. For a growing number of Americans, finding clothes in the plus size range is an ever-frustrating battle. As a market in itself, we are barely acknowledged. This must change.

American Apparel, one of America's largest and most influential clothing companies, completely lacks plus-size clothing options. This symbolizes a widespread trend in the fashion industry. By petitioning American Apparel, we can make a major statement about the need for plus-size fashions.

We urge American Apparel to:

      • Provide a diverse range of plus size clothing options, male and female, ranging from sizes 18-44, or 1x-7x

      • Make these items affordable, and abstain from extra material fees

      • Design plus size clothing which is figure flattering for all shapes, and is attractive

Whether you are a plus-size consumer or not, I hope you will recognize this as a necessary step towards equality and sign!

Dear Dov Charney,
As a fashion conscious young woman who also happens to be a plus-size consumer, I am constantly frustrated by the lack of clothing options in my size. I know that I am not the only one with this same issue. For millions of larger Americans, clothes shopping is a disappointing and humiliating experience, with one overarching message: you are too fat for fashion

If you are, as your company website claims, a fashion innovator, I urge you to consider meeting our needs. You have stood up in the past for great causes, such as gay rights in California. Why not stand up for the plus size community as well?

Thank you for your consideration,
Izzy Okaya
