Help California to make Marijuana Legal & solve buget crunch! You can help make California the first state to tax and regulate marijuana!
With California facing the worst budget deficit in generations, Assemblyman Tom Ammiano today introduced a bill to tax and regulate marijuana like alcohol. Will you support his commonsense plan by writing to your local paper today?
Marijuana is California's number one cash crop worth multiple billions each year. Assemblyman Ammiano's bill would regulate that market like beer, wine and liquor while barring access to those under 21.
Annual revenues from fees and excise taxes could be in the billions, and we'll save another billion a year that we now spend on marijuana prohibition. Plus, this bill will put an end to tens of thousands of marijuana arrests made each year in California.
Marijuana reform has a new champion in Sacramento. You can help by telling your local paper that you support Tom Ammiano's landmark bill to tax and regulate marijuana like alcohol.
Help us make the most of this chance to educate Californians about a better approach.
Sincerely,
Stephen Gutwillig California Director, Drug Policy Alliance Network
TIPS FOR WRITING YOUR LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Thank you for supporting the regulation of marijuana like alcohol in California! Letters to the editor are an important part of being a citizen lobbyist, and can have a great effect on public opinion and policy. Once you have drafted a letter, send it (preferably by email) to your local newspapers, including dailies and weeklies. The more newspapers you send your letter to, the better your chances of getting published. Keep these basics in mind: - Keep your letter short and concise: 150-200 words max - Be clear and focused. Name your issue and state what action should be taken. - Write in simple language. Editors want letters that are easy to understand. - Sign your letter. Newspapers will not publish letters that are not signed. - Provide contact information at the bottom of your letter: name, mailing address and phone number. This will only be used for the newspaper to verify that you are indeed who you say you are. They do not publish personal contact info. We hope that you find these tips helpful. Thank you and good luck! Feel free to contact Drug Policy Alliance for help in contacting your legislators. You can reach our regional offices by email at sacto@drugpolicy.org, sf@drugpolicy.org or la@drugpolicy.org; or by telephone at (916) 444-3751, (415) 921-4987, or (213) 382-6400, respectively.

Marijuana is not dangerous, instead it helps for medical problems such as for the pain.

This is a good opportunity to get back the billions of dollars in funding that CA has taken from schools.

Good people have gone to jail because of MJ. It is time to end the war on people. If passed into law all that have been arrested for any type of MJ infraction should be released from our jails, and their record deleted.

We need to legalize it today! California needs the money. Also law enforcement can focus on more important problems that need higher attention. Drunk drivers kill multiple times the amount that marijuana does, yet alcohol is legal. It makes no sense. Please legalize it today!

Relief for patients. A safer alternative to alcohol for adults. Less violence due to intoxication. And, lets not forget the heaping pile of money to be made by the government. Stop this hypocritical and ineffective prohibition. Make the right choice.

Hemp would be a great way to fight global warming. It stores carbon quickly, as an annual plant, and it can be used for stop forest destruction for paper, and fiber for clothing and many other applications. Why sites like Care2 have not promoted this aspect of its legalization is shameful!!

Medical Marijuana Debate and Its Affect on Youth Drug Use
"While it is not possible with existing data to determine conclusively that state medical marijuana laws caused the documented declines in adolescent marijuana use, the overwhelming downward trend strongly suggests that the effect of state medical marijuana laws on teen marijuana use has been either neutral or positive, discouraging youthful experimentation with the drug."

legalization and taxation would help the economy and help keep prison cells available for real criminals. Also it is non addictive and as long as it not abused it is very safe. also it'll keep it out of the hands of minors because dealers don't check for ID but if it is legalized and taxed then can be regulated therefore if made legal, marijuana will be made safer. tobacco causes an addiction that takes many lives, but weed does not

Marijuana isn't the "Demon Weed" that the alarmists make it out to be. Alcohol is much more destructive and harms all organs of the body. Tobacco causes cancer and many other illnesses. Yet both alcohol and tobacco are sold, regulated, and taxed heavily. Why is marijuana different? Racism. Google it!

I am not asking you to "smoke it" just vote fot it. I've gone to a city council meeting to let people in my community know that AB 390 is out there. I asked them to contact their assemblyman and senator and let these elected officials know that they support this bill. We need to start at the local level and work our way to the federal level. If you are interested in helping save this country's economy than you will need to vote "yes" on the legalization of marijuana in all its forms.

The criminal prosecution of marijuana users, sellers, growers, or distributors is a ridiculous waste of resources. Tax payers need real governance, not legislators so afraid and self interested as to overlook the reality. The state is broke. Using our limited resources to prosecute non-violent, victimless acts as crimes, is irresponsible at best, and just plain reckless in most cases. Stop this insanity. Use the money and resources to heal our state, not make more prisoners who are unable to care for themselves and their families.

Marijuana tax profits would help fund our childrens education instead of california prisons taking away the money from our kids school. Why not put back the funding for our kids and their futures? People will always make that choice to smoke, as it is to drink alcohol legal or not. History says this. Why don't we give more back to education which has seem to be lost with all this tough economy and is getting major cuts. Help fix california's budget problems!!! Like it is any worse than alcohol? Alcohol is legal and taxed. Cigarettes are known to be cancer causing ...is taxed. Both of which kill so many people a year. Marijuana should be a choice and those that choose will be taxed for it. Even if you deem it evil or wrong it is truly no worse than what is already out there. We have so many kinds of opiates cocaine and speed-based narcotics in our pills we dispense out yet we refuse to tax marijuana? America needs to move forward to prosper!!!

There has been no record of death or overdose of Marijuana documented. Not only will this help the CA economy, it will free up the overly clustered prisons of CA (which wastes taxpayers money). There is no documented aggression after using Marijuana (like alcohol) and does not give 2nd hand smoke (like cigarettes). There is no reason as to why this should be illegal. I fully support the regulation of Marijuana (aka no driving etc). Legalizing Marijuana will also prevent the habit of lacing (marijuana mixed with cocaine etc).

This is definatly going to jumpstart our economy and get us back to a place where we can beign to grow, and expand once again. The amount of jobs that will be opening all across California and eventually all of America will virtually give everyone the chance to be employed and have a nation with the lowest unemployment rate ever. Growing marijuana is easy, and can be done by anyone, sold by anyone, and smoked by anyone. The marijuana plant is the most resourceful plant in the world, i know this from lots and lots of research and the information is in front of everyones face.
