Corexit is four times as toxic as the oil itself. It is dangerous to humans, animals and has even been known to destroy boats by eating through them and creating holes. Corexit disperses oil but does not remove it therefore it just spreads it out. The chemicals in Corexit allow oil to permeate our bodies and organs and causes rupturing of red blood cells. DR Susan Shaw a toxicologist reported it to have caused bleeding of the rectum and other lethal side effects.

A dire report prepared for President Medvedev by Russia%u2019s Ministry of Natural Resources is warning today that the British Petroleum (BP) oil and gas leak in the Gulf of Mexico is about to become the worst environmental catastrophe in all of human history threatening the entire eastern half of the North American continent with %u201Ctotal destruction%u201D.
Russian scientists are basing their apocalyptic destruction assessment due to BP%u2019s use of millions of gallons of the chemical dispersal agent known as Corexit 9500 which is being pumped directly into the leak of this wellhead over a mile under the Gulf of Mexico waters and designed, this report says, to keep hidden from the American public the full, and tragic, extent of this leak that is now estimated to be over 2.9 million gallons a day.
We the undersigned believe Corexit must be banned due to its toxicity and an alternative safe solution must be found to clear up oil spills.
The use of corexit to clean up the Gulf and any other oil spills must be stopped. Corexit is actually worsening the damage caused by the oil spill. It has been proven to be 4 times for toxic than the oil itself and is poisonous to humans, animals, plants and all other forms of life on earth. Corexit disperses oil it does not remove it.
According to Gulf toxicologist Dr. Susan Shaw - Founder and Director of the Marine Environmental Research Institute - Corexit causes the following: %u201Cruptures in red blood cells, internal bleeding" and it also may "allow crude oil to penetrate into cells%u201D and %u201Cevery organ system".
Corexit is toxic is because of its chemical composition. Solvents in it penetrate the skin of anything that it permeates. Therefore the solvent takes the dispersed oil allowing it to enter into the cells and the organs of any living body.
As it is we have now poisoned our oceans twice: once with the oil spill and secondly with toxic corexit. The waters of our ocean are now dangerous and these chemicals will permeate our food supply, our water supply, the rains that fall on us, basically our entire ecosystem.
Corexit must be banned.
