No Confidence in Dunlap School Board District #323

The Dunlap School Board has recently given a variety of reasons as proof that they are unable to manage finances, understand the decision making process and look out for the best in our students.

Recently, magically the school is facing a $2.1 million dollar deficit. The school boards has approved all the abnoxious spending the past 5 years since Dr. Marino has been elected president. The school previously had plans to remodel and add on to previous buildings accomodating future students, however when entering office, those plans were immediately scratched and within one year of becoming Superindent the School Boards approved the addition of the "Freshman Academy". Later a new elementry school. Both of these are top of the line. The district now also has the nicest football feild in the tri county area: Turf.

The school board has been asked during "Coffee & Convo" with the superintendent and the president of the board, who said yes we have the money? Who is managing our tax dollars? Why are we not saying no? If you are currently in a recession, just becuase there is money doesn't mean spend it, wouldn't you want to stop/slow spending? All of the questions were dismissed and not answered.

Upon several board meetings the school board has performed very unprofessionaly with inappropriate comments in regards to the public and teachers. While speaking, the board will cut off people from speaking or make rude remarks.

The budget has been reviewed, however the board of education has yet to fully examine the budget line by line. Decisions are being made without appropriate examination of details.

Classes are too large, teachers are loosing their jobs, classes are being cut, students are being seen as an ACT score or a STEM. We have to realize that students are a schools main focus, and student success comes from the curriculum, the teachers, the class size, and the community support.

We have to realize that students that have special needs do count as part of our class roster, however the board and administion seems not to agree. Classrooms are too crowded, some are unsafe due to class size, and the talents of the 21st century learning style are being cut; because we only believe that ALL students are going to college and ALL students want to become engineers and doctors. Many students want to prusue another route in life, but limiting choices, does nothing but limit their success.

We would like to see a new school board elected with professionals that will manage our tax dollars and look out for the best of our students. Take a moment and visit the classrooms and see what you are investing your money in. Stop traveling and focus on the hear and now. Learning comes from our educators who are trained to meet each students individual needs with and without technology. However, students do not need the latest and greatest materials to learn.

How can you make decisions without personally viewing the problem and/or understanding finance, is anyone else checking the districts finances to make sure they are correct? Has the school board been educated on understanding the finance aspect of schools?
