Don't Vote Mary Ellen Brennan

Who are you voting for? 6th District Oakland County Judge Mary Ellen Brennan up for re-election 2020 and her views on Domestic Violence victims and the children involved. She never listened to the facts of my case, but she was aware there were incidents of Domestic Violence. I was bullied by her staff they made me fear losing custody of my daughter and son. I represented myself after running out of resources for an attorney. Approximately 10 months later an order was entered for joint legal and physical custody for a 3 and 2 year old with a man who repeatedly abused me in front of the children. History I was just short of graduating collage when I met a charming, quiet speaking man, he was romantic, really generous, laid back, and funny it didn’t take long before I was sure I loved him. After dating for a year or so I learned I was expecting a baby. I was scared but very excited. He didn’t seem happy at first. However, we soon decided to find a house and moved in together. This is when I learned that he was abusive. Over the almost two years we lived together I was threated, belittled, and shamed, my friends and family was told things like I was evil and crazy. I had my key for the house taken, so I was unable to enter the family home, physically forced out and told to leave, that I was a guest with no rights to the home. He would pin me in corners and yell and me at the top of his voice, dragged me down stairs, bit me, beat me in the head, pushed me, threw me down to the floor, jabbed me in the chest with a piece of wood, he left the children home alone once, and his drinking and drug use was alarming, and I could go on and on. Many of these incidents occurred in front of the children or as I was holding them. He was arrested twice for Domestic Violence. I am terrified of him, and I don’t believe the children are safe with him. He has shown the ability to behave and control himself just long enough to get what he wants. I fear future abuse toward me and that he will began abusing the children emotionally and even physically, he seems incapable of maintaining close healthy relationships. This court used statements like “we are aware there are under tones of domestic violence in this case” May I ask what “under tones” of domestic violence is? “Well you’re the one who had children with this man”, “you’re really going to make us go on record for one overnight?” the judge is not going to like this”, and “you’re self-represented, you’re taking a big risk with your children”, this is just a few of the shocking insensitive statements made by this court. At the start of this case was told I was lucky to have Judge Mary Ellen Brennan. However, my experience is that there is no support for battered women and children in her court, at least not for us. Father’s parental rights trumps Best Interest for children, Mother’s parental rights and safety. Will I appeal? Why? I fear retaliation, Judge Ellen Brennan extorts and orders exorbitant fines and fees, with no regard for your limited resources if you raise concerns or objections to any order she enters. I feel discriminated against I am a young battered mother with two young beautiful children, whom this Judge showed no regard for. Even with limited understanding of Domestic Violence and its dangerous dynamic, how can a judgement be entered of joint custody with person arrested twice for Domestic Violence not years ago, but someone currently on probation for the offense. My hope is to be a voice and educate the public of the way we are being served by this Court. Vote carefully Oakland County citizens
