Republican Paul Ryan is the new Speaker of the House. A policy wonk more interested in his committee chairmanship, Ryan didn't want the job, and agreed to do it only if those insisting he run met a number of demands. One of those demands was that Ryan be allowed to skip the job's usual weekend requirements to keep spending time with his family.
Fair enough, right? Well, maybe - except Ryan has voted against paid paternity leave for families far less well off than his own. Seems everyone has to work weekends except Paul Ryan.
That's not Ryan's only attack on working families, either - he's also gone after child care subsidies for poor parents, wants to cut food stamps, and opposes any increase in the stagnant minimum wage.
