Meet 1-year-old Maltese/Poodle mix dubbed Snowflake that was found by a good Samaritan on State Street around 1 p.m. on Monday who then immediately alerted the police. Apart from the band that was literally embedded into the dog’s flesh, she was severely emaciated due to this band that kept her snout shut from eating. The band itself, vets say, may have been on there for nearly 3 weeks. It's a miracle that's alive at all despite the abuse she's been put through.

Dr. James St. Clair of Meriden Animal Hospital had this to say,“We’re assuming maybe it was to stop her from barking or something like that, but since it had been on there for such a long period of time, it had compressed down on the skin and then had actually cut through her lip and upper nasal cavity.”

It has further been determined that she also has a severe infection and will have to undergo surgery.

Call the Meriden Animal Control office if you have any info at (203) 235-4179.
