Congregation of Divine Providence of Chile fumigates 50 cats!

Nuns of the Congregation of Divine Providence of Antofagasta (Chile) will fumigate 50 cats! The order comes from Santiago. Members of the animal rights group "Abandoned Kittens in Antofagasta" met with the nuns, who are absolutely refused to the possibility of granting more time for adoption of the cats. "They have until 19 February at 15:00 for removing or be fumigated."

These cats do not pose a health risk to the community through the loving care of a nun who never forgot that cats are creatures of God. Only one nun, Sister Copmman Orietta, cares since 10 years for the abandoned cats, which every day are abandoned in the area of the sisters and every day she collects, restores and houses them.

This animal rights group are sterilized today almost all the cats. They have tried to find homes from the cats to save them from extermination by the Congregation. "They are my children and I will fight to the end for them" says the nun to speak about their beloved cats.

Ideally shall surrender the Municipality of Antofagasta a piece of land, where the kittens can be placed. The congregation will move to Tocopilla, leaving the shrine under the administration of the Church of San José de Antofagasta and the lands, inhabited by the nuns, remain uninhabited.

Hereby demand we, defenders of animal rights, the intervention of the Municipality of Antofagasta (Chile) to offer shelter for cats and emphatically repudiate the decision and the actions of the Congregation of Divine Providence on the heartless killing of these innocent creatures of God.

Monjas de la Congregación de la Divina Providencia de Antofagasta fumigarán 50 gatos. La orden viene de la provincial en Santiago. Integrantes de la agrupación animalista "Gatitos Abandonados de Antofagasta" se reunieron con las religiosas, quienes se negaron absolutamente ante la posiblidad de otorgar más tiempo para dar en adopción a los gatos. "Tienen plazo hasta el 19 de febrero a las 15:00 para sacarlos o serán fumigados".

Estos gatos no representan ningún riesgo sanitario para la comunidad gracias a los amorosos cuidados de una religiosa que nunca olvidó que los gatos también son criaturas de Dios. Sólo una monja, la hermana Orietta Copmman, hace 10 años cuida los gatos que todos los días son abandonados en el terreno de las hermanas, todos los días ella los recoge, recupera y alberga. Hoy y con la ayuda de esta agrupación animalista han esterilizado casi a la totalidad de los felinos y han procurado buscarle hogar ante la amenaza de exterminio de la congregación. "Son mis hijos y yo lucharé hasta el final por ellos" indica la religiosa al hablar de sus amados gatos.

Lo ideal es que la Municipalidad de Antofagasta ceda un terrenito donde puedan ser ubicados los gatitos. La Congregación se traslada a Tocopilla, quedando la capilla bajo la administración de la Iglesia San José de Antofagasta, y los terrenos donde habitaban las religiosas permanecerán desocupados.

Aquí mediante nosotros, defensores de los derechos de los animales, exigimos la intervención de la Municipalidad de Antofagasta para ofrecerles albergue a los gatos y repudiamos enfáticamente la decisión y el proceder de la Congregación de la Divina Providencia respecto del exterminio sin corazón de estas inocentes creaturas de Dios.
