Emergency Federal and State Protection for Radio Collared Wolves

Radio collared wolves sometimes wander into territories where they are not protected by federal or state laws and become targets for hunters and trappers.

OR-9, a collared wolf from Oregon, was killed by a hunter in Idaho who had an out-of-date wolf hunting permit. The hunter was not prosecuted.

Recently 06, the world reknown and much-loved Yellowstone Park alpha female wolf from the Lamar Park, was shot dead by a hunter who did not claim the kill which took place just outside the boundary of the Park.

Now the well-known OR-16 from Oregon has found his way to Idaho where hunters and trappers are already promoting the wolf as a trophy target.

OR-16 and all radio collared wolves need federal and state protection now in order that scientific research can continue, the financial investment each collared wolf represents is not lost, and most importantly, that these wolves do not suffer at the hands of hunters and trappers who see them as legitimate targets.

We ask all law-makers at all levels ensure radio collared wolves are protected NOW.

Thank you.
