Firing people for exercising their freedom to protect their bodies is what is done in dictatorships. Even if a vaccine were to be proven safe and effective, an individual must have the right to reject a shot and still maintain his/her employment with no change in standing. Anyone who does any research at all into Big Pharma will be amazed to find that the people who run these companies make the mafia look like angels.

I am totally opposed to state mandated vaccines for anybody, especially when these vaccines have no liability. What happens if somebody is injured by the vaccines? I understand that vaccine adverse reactions are legally defined as effects only reported within 72 hours of immunization. That is ridiculous.

People should not lose their jobs, schooling, daycare, housing, right to vote, freedom, etc,etc, (where is it going to end?) for refusing to have vaccinations. People should not lose control over their own bodies.

As a health care worker,I believe I have the right to refuse a new vaccine. The population effected would make teachers more likely candidates for innoculation. I have knowledge of diseease prevention and routinely apply them with all patients. Educate the public and don't give me any less freedom than they have. Honestly, I think this is a misguided attempt to have someone available to care for people when they get the flu when most of them should use common sense and stay at home and take care of themselves and/or their family members.

I am a Registered Nurse and am writing in regard to the Public Health Law that mandates all healthcare personnel receive the Seasonal Flu vaccine and the novel H1N1 vaccine. I am disappointed at this egregious unilateral action by Dr. Daines. It is a direct violation of my human and civil rights to force me to take an injection into my body without consent. Further, this is a direct violation of medical ethics and practice where consent is obtained from a patient before any procedure is performed or medicine is given. As a healthcare professional, I am aware of the transmission of the seasonal flu and the swine flu. Appropriate hand washing before and after patient care is a must and common practice to avoid transmission of this and any disease. When a patient is suspected of or has the flu, additional contact and droplet precautions are taken to prevent the spread of the virus. It is proven that while the flu vaccine is protective to a degree, it is not an absolute confirmation of immunity from getting the virus. We can look to the 2008-09 vaccinations and rate of infections. Vaccinated individuals received the flu because the virus code in the inoculation was different and failed to protect people from a mutated virus. Therefore, we can conclude from this example and others in the past that the flu vaccine is not as effective as Measles Mumps Rubella titers or a Purified Protein Derivative test to diagnose tuberculosis and should not be mandated for all healthcare workers. It is one of my responsibilities to inform my patients regarding disease processes, precautions, and ways to address their sickness for the betterment of their health. Point of care education is important but is often not enough. It is imperative for the public to be educated regarding protective measures against the flu to prevent them from ending up in the hospital. I would suggest that NYS make public health announcements regarding hand washing and cleanliness as way to appropriately disseminate information. Further, I suggest that school assemblies, town hall meetings, and other public forums are encouraged and utilized as a pre-emptive measure to protect against flu for highest incidences of flu are not among healthcare personnel but rather are in the public especially in schools, daycares, and large office settings where people are confined to small spaces and fail to wash their hands. It is defensive medicine to start with healthcare personnel and the hospital where the sickest are identified and managed according to standards of care. It is necessary to practice offensive medicine in the face of this pandemic, and therefore the public must be reached first. This is the best forum to utilize healthcare personnel. RNs, MDs, and Public Health Officials should be sent to these meetings where we can provide practical and sound advice to manage and prevent the spread of the flu. Additionally, it is imperative that we protect pregnant women and their fetuses and not utilize them as a study group. Pregnant women should be protected by us and not used for protection. We should not in good conscience vaccinate pregnant women and their fetus with no understanding of safety or efficacy without appropriate testing, clinical trials, and years to see the effects on the average population of the H1N1 vaccination; this is a violation of medical ethics. Elected officials are in place to protect their constituents and not infringe on their rights. This mandate is not protective but dangerous. It is a direct violation of my rights as a resident of New York, as a citizen of the United States, and as a human being to be mandated to ingest, inject, or subject my body to something I have not chosen to take. There was no discussion or forum in which my voice could have been heard. It is my expectation as a member of a democratic nation that my voice means something.

Buy antiviral tissues, stay home if you're sick and wash your hands frequently and eat a healthy diet. Avoid excess sugars and mucus-forming dairy foods and get plenty of exercise. Last i knew this was the USA not Russia. We as health care workers are the LEAST likely to spred stuff as WE always follow general percations, it is drilled into us during training rather its a CNA, LPN, RN, laundry aide, housekeeping aide, diatary or maintance. To ALWAYS WASH OUR HANDS, CHANGE OUR GLOVES. We have yearly state inspectors come in at any time. how many of you sitting in Albany can say they wash their hands each and everytime between hand shakes ?????? im guessing NONE and how do you know that they person you just shock hands with didn't just sneeze into them????? we are taught during training to always turn our heads and sneeze or cough into our elbows or shoulders or if we are wearing a sweater into it. because of your great big money making idea there is now a shortage of reg. flu shots for people who want or need them. WE DO NOT WANT TO HAVE ONE. 26 yrs in the health field not once have i gotten the flu or the flu shot. and when we all loose our jobs who is going to take care of the people in the hospitals, nursing homes ???? you.... haha you cant even run the state with out fighting..... walk a mile baby walk a mile
