STOP DONKEY BALL FUNDRAISER ON MARCH 28TH 2011 AT WEST TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY!

West Texas A&M University and some of its student organizations(SAGE,etc.) have arranged a donkey ball fundraising event for the Muscular Dystrophy Association taking place on March 28, 2011 at 7pm. SAGE stands for Students Assisting in Good Endeavors. While I fully support raising money for a good cause, the manner in which this is being done is appalling and not representative of a good endeavor. Animal pain and suffering for human benefit. West Texas A&M University is a very respectable educational institution and the city of Canyon,Texas in which it is located is a wonderful community. I, Lauren Mullen, want to keep this school and city a respectable place and do not believe we should be supporting an event that is dangerous to both the animals, participants, and on lookers. This fundraising event is raising money to help SAVE human life at the risk of injuring humans and animals by playing Donkey Ball. There are many wonderful alternatives that can draw larger crowds, more funds, and are safe for everyone to participate in.Please refer to these sites for more information on this sad sport. With your support and signature, we can do this!

Please note that I, Lauren Mullen, fully support and encourage the raising of funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association as long as it is done in good taste! If you would like to donate to the MDA, you can visit their website athttp://www.mda.org

West Texas A&M University, We the undersigned, would like to bring attention to a Donkey Ball Fundraising event for the Muscular Dystrophy Association that will be occurring at West Texas A&M University on March 28th, 2011 at 7:00pm in The Box. I, Lauren Mullen, being a proud student of WTAMU, was deeply disturbed to see a poster advertising a Donkey Basketball fundraising event for the MDA occurring on March 28th at 7pm.SAGE stands for students assisting in good endeavors. While raising funds for a good cause is a good endeavor and something I completely support, the manner in which SAGE, staff, and all other participants has decided to do so is appalling. Donkey Basketball promotes cruelty of animals for human enjoyment and benefit. The event being used to raise awareness and money for Muscular Dystrophy could result in injury to both human and animal life. I find this to be a contradiction when the money is to be raised to help SAVE human life. Upon reviewing of the Dairyland Donkey Ball website, it was surprising to see that their FAQ's section gives no information on the safety and treatment of the animals used in the game along with the dangerous risks to humans. However, I did see plenty of information regarding what happens if a donkey decides to use the restroom on the gym floor. This has made me truly lose some respect for the student organizations of WTAMU. I believe whole heartedly in the ethical treatment of humans and animals and as a student of West Texas A&M, I am saddened that a school I love so much is allowing such a disheartening event to occur. This is not a safe event for the people or the animals. Please take a moment to review some information on Donkey Ball and I sincerely hope ya'll will reconsider this event immediately and not draw negative attention to such an upstanding school or community.
