Better Conditions for Killer Whales In Captivity! Help Tilikum...

"Maybe we as a species have outgrown the need to keep such wild, enormous, complex, intelligent, and free-ranging animals in captivity, where their behavior is not only unnatural; it can become pathological. Maybe we have learned all we can from keeping them captive." Jean-Michel Cousteau

  • Tilikum was the Killer Whale that was involved in the February incident where SeaWorld trainer Dawn Brancheau was killed. There has been a lot of speculation on what should be done with his future, but many people have no idea of his past. Tilikum is almost 30 years old, and he has had a life filled with abuse and negligence. Now SeaWorld thinks it would be wrong to introduce Tilikum to a larger more natural habitat, instead keeping him in a small tank for breeding purposes with no social or human interaction. SeaWorld, please stop breeding Tilikum and allow him to have a peaceful life.
Now Tilikum has no interaction. He used to have belly rubs, now he is hosed down from a distance. He has had a difficult life being taken from his family, kept in small spaces, and forced to perform. Even though Dawn Brancheau's story is a tragic one, Tilikum never chose his tragic fate. It is time that SeaWorld stops using marine wildlife for profit. Killer Whales and other marine life do not belong in captivity. These creatures are not educating the human race by doing repetitive tricks for our amusement. Tilikum is just one whale, but it is time we start making SeaWorld accountable. We need to be his voice.

We the undersigned are hoping to encourage you to be mindful of your responsibility for your killer whales. We are wanting you to look at them for what they truly are: WILD, intelligent, and beautiful creatures. They should have never been considered a dollar sign in the past, and I truly hope that in the future killer whales will not be seen entertaining us in captivity. I believe that you have good intentions and you mean to be a great educater of the public. My concern is the fate of Tilikum. I realize that he seems more profitable to you being bred rather than being happy. Please re-consider a more suitable habitat for his remaining years. I know that Dawn Brancheau's death was tragic, but keeping Tilikum isolated is just creating another tragedy. We should never fault a wild animal for acting wild.
