eco friendly dwelling 09-0497-P

Target:
to continue living on and farming our land
We currently live in our eco friendly, sustainable and low impact home on our 4 acre smallholding which we farm using permaculture methods, working with nature and not against it. We follow the permaculture principles - earth care - peop;le care - fairshare. Unfortunately, our local council thinks houses in this area should be made of "unsustainable" granite and that we should use modern machinery to farm our land, thus using up extra fossil fuels, and also live elsewhere so we would have to travel to our farm, again using fossil fuel. They also state that by farming with our method we are "creating work for ourselves". Is this not a good thing to do considering the present economic climate and the state of the environment? Please sign our petition, enabling us to continue living and working on our land. Thank you for your time.

"creating work for yourselves" that's very caring of them! Perhaps there are grants thus to enable you to buy machinery that is manually operated but at the same time labour saving; e.g. a compost tumbler can create compost in a matter of weeks as opposed to years! It has a handle on the side and doesn't use any electricity, some are made from 100% recycled plastic. Can you get recycled granite? You can get irrigation hose which is made of 100% recycled tyres which trickle waters through a seepage process all the way along its length; that's labour saving and assisting recycling :) I use upturned bins made from 100% recycled tyres with what was the bottom cut out and tent pegs to hold them down. This is labour saving because you don't have to bend down and also saves water. The circle that's left over can be made into other things including heat proof table mats; covered with fabric that matches your table cloth and napkins, I thought they looked quite good! I also made potato "chimneys" from two identical bins (made from 100% recycled tyres) making a large hole on the side of one bin near what was the top and using the second bin to make a sleeve which sides up to reveal the potato crop when it is ready, that saves having to do any digging. Check legislation re. whether you are permitted to stay overnight or for a period of a number of days at a time or a maximum number of days per year - YOU NEED LEGAL ASSISTANCE - you should be permitted working residency - good luck x

U tell them who's boss and tell 'em about how you want to live, not how they want you to live. No one in the world has the right to tell other how to live, especially a council or government. let's put an end to this crap right now!!

I really hope that you will be able to continue living this way - it's what I'm dreaming of doing as well. Good luck!

Every human should have the right to own their land and farm it. Soon no one will have the resource to farm their land because of the power hungry, money hungry, greedy people that want to build, build, build while poluting our environment even more! These people are good, decent individuals and have that right to keep their land and do with it good things as creation has allowed them to do for so long! I wish these individuals the best of luck and hope for them that they keep their land and that their local council does not get a chance to line their pockets with money that only turns to evil, greed, and oh yes, poison!

I know these people and what they are trying to achieve is totally environmental friendly. All they are asking is to be given the right (human right)? to opt out of the proverbial rat-race and live off the land as much as is humanly possible. They have sold their modern house along with everything that went with it, bill wise ,to live the life of self sustainable 'small holders'. The local council however have other ideas. Whilst understanding that they do not want dwellings of all descriptions springing up all over the place this couple are extremely sincere in their wish to be just left alone on their OWN few acres of land to live their lives in their own green , eco friendly way. Maybe if they classed themselves as Gypsies/travellers they would get more sympathy? When one reads of camp sites being built on greenbelt throughout Britain with NO planning permission sought off anyone , but getting HELP from local councils you begin to wonder where certain councils priorities lie. I wish them all the luck in the world.
