Helix shaped wind turbines save birds/more efficient.

This petition calls on large wind turbine manufacturers in the U.S. and worldwide to study and incorporate new design elements for wind turbines/blades which consider safety of birds, lower noise levels, and better efficiency.

Their have been recent news reports that a large wind turbine manufacturer was having to recall a number of conventionally designed wind turbines for repair because of engineering design issues.

Many companies are now designing, building, selling and attempting to patent helix shaped wind turbines, they look a bit like a strand of DNA on a wind tower pole and are reported to be not only quieter but significantly more efficient than conventional wind turbine design.

Helix shaped wind turbines are also reported to be quieter and bird friendly because as the helix turbine/blade spins it creates a visual of a solid mass or shape which birds can see and avoid as opposed to conventional wind turbine design which when they spin create an optical illusion of empty space which birds attempt to fly through and get killed by the spinning blades.

Also unlike conventional wind turbines helix shaped wind turbines are reported to have less maintenance issues because of the fact that they have no conventional blades to speak of and this creates a better center of gravity because the "DNA" helix strand design of the "blades" cause it to be more of an extension of the wind tower pole than conventional blades which hang out away from the tower pole structure which creates greater mechanical stress.

These new design trends seem to be the way of the future and this petition calls on U.S. wind turbine manufacturers and also foreign wind turbine manufacturers to consider and begin adopting some of these new more eco-friendly, quiet and efficient designs.

To incorporate these new design elements seems to be not only better for wildlife but also more profitable since these helix wind turbines are reported to be more mechanically sound which translates into less maintenance costs and their design is more efficient at harnessing the wind, which equals more power generation per wind tower.

We cannot sacrifice birds for our energy needs. Use bird-friendly designs only.

We are rapidly losing our wildlife due to climate change, loss of habitat, toxic pollution, and other factors. We need to avoid creating an additional means of killing birds by developing a bird-friendly design for wind turbines.

We should research efficient placement and implementation of both commercial wind turbines of propellor or helical-vane design, Darius troposkein foil, or Savonius reaction bucket designs to upgrade the capacity of our power grids and encourage local placement of small wind power installations of community or individual sizes to reduce the overall loading on the grid and make it more efficient and cheaper to maintain.

We need to adopt these eco-friendly designs for our wind turbines. That way, it would save a lot of birds from being accidently killed, and would be more energy efficient.
