On June 29, 2010 Spring ISD Board will meet to discuss cutting the budget.  The district could save $750,000 if all of the 25 elementary schools librarians help fill vacant positions instead of hiring additional staff.

This will be done by eliminating some librarian's hours. Some librarian's will work half day in the library and the other half of the day in a campus support position.  This means the school library our children now have access to on a daily basis all day will be limited to half days three days a week if this budget cut passes.

Since most of our kids have never stepped foot in a public library,  please help keep our school libraries open all day as a safe place for our kids to go as well as helping our teachers keep their jobs.  The Board will also be voting to approve contruction for a new press box & concession stand for Spring High School.  I'm confused.....we need a press box and concession stand but NOT a full time library??!!!

Dr. Ralph Draper
, Spring ISD Superintendent said, and I quote "  We are raising the bar for all students in Spring schools.  Spring is a community that values it's children, and WE are engaging the community in providing the education our students need to ensure that they have a bright and productive future." (Visit website @ http://www.springisd.org/ for full article.)

Doesn't this start in our elementary schools and not the the press box or concession stand of a baseball field?  If you shut our libraries for even an hour a day you will NOT be raising the bar but making it so low it prevents our children from a bright and productive future.
