Help Save Harrison County Ohio Dogs

Target:
Gain Compliance with Ohio Law AND End Gassing at Dog Pound
Sponsored by:
This Petition is to make awareness and gain compliance with the Ohio Revised Code (ORC), as amended pertaining to the dogs in Harrison County, Ohio.

As of this date, many violations are occuring, and as a result, the majority of the dogs are simply being killed rather than being adopted.  In many cases, they have had no chance of adoption.

Law violations include, but are not limited to, no operating hours posted for adoptions, the killing of dogs, improper staffing (sole active employee is warden).

Dogs and pupplies are being picked up at private residences by the warden for the mere purpose of being disposed of via gas chamber and are not even offered for adoption "because their owner sent them to be put down".  This practice needs stopped, as a result of there is nobody available for adoptions.

The County is in a killing mode only.  This must be stopped.  Rescue organizations have met resistance in gaining access to the dogs.  Education of governing laws is needed by the County, as ignorance is no excuse.

All of the dogs at the pound on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 were to be put down due to the warden going on vacation the following day until June 9.  4 of the 6 were rescued by us, we would have had the remaining 2 had we been aware of the law governing those at the time.

Please stop this inhumane, senseless slaughter. Many people are looking to adopt a dog, even those dogs whose previous owner no longer wanted them. Many times the owner is the problem, NOT the dog.

These dogs deserve a chance. By following the laws of the state, at least the dogs will have a better chance of humane treatment and finding a home.

Please correct these wrongs-people being lazy by not posting hours of operation, something that would take a few moments to create and then these animals are all being killed because no one knows about them, so, that means these employees have time to improve this shelter.

I just do not understand why shelters are not more compassionate and loving to these dogs. Why do they not try everything in their power to adopt these poor animals out, instead of sending them to these cruel, inhumane gas chambers. Is our country so mean and cruel that we have to act like the Nazi's killing people in gas chambers. We take our dogs everywhere even on vacation, but I will never go to Ohio, in case 1 of my dogs got loose and ended up being killed in these gas chambers. Ohio you should be ashamed of yourselves for letting this way of killing continue.

This is wrong for so many reasons. Not giving any of these dogs a chance at a life and a home. And putting them down just because the idiot running the place is going on vacation? That is insane! Why does Harrison County feel it is above state law? And why are no officials as in the police or the D.A.'s office putting a stop to this. I'd be searching for an animal loving lawyer to take on the case. I know there's a lot of bad things happening out there, but when it happens in a country that is supposed to have laws that protect their animals, where and when is there going to be justice?
