With any of our local parks closing you might as well shut down every little town around these parks and put them on welfare. This is a catastrophe and a more creative solution should be found to balance our state budget.
I am a student, and am often stressed out by maintaing a full time work and full time school schedule, I live in the city and do not have a yard; parks provide a place for me and my dog to exercise and relax.
I mostly visit Kankakee River State Park as it is near my home. So far it is not on the list, however, ANY park is a wonderful place to spend quiet time - with friends, family, the dogs :) to photograph, to write, to just appreciate nature. I love sitting by the river, especially at sunset.
A couple of times a year, we enjoy a picnic at the parks. We love to fish in those parks that offer fishing opportunities. Its a great sport to teach our grandchildren. In addition, Castle Rock State Park is a very convenient checkstation to register my harvested deer in the fall.
The people I see and meet in the park are all there to enjoy the resources of the State of Illinois. The number of people using the park may seem small compaired to the population of the major cities in Illinois but we are citizens of the state also and would like to continiue to have a place for recreation without traveling out of state. Please reconsider your decission to close the parks liste above.
I loved going camping at Kickapoo in the fall. The colors of the leaves and the lake were very beautiful.
As a child I was very fortunate to visit the Illinois State Park in Marseilles...my husband is a retired USMC Marine and we were able to travel and introduce our children to the grand state parks....ie., Castle Rock State Park, Kanakakee State Park, Bernheim Forest, Mammoth Cave, and the Illinois State Park in Marseilles. They were also able to walk the Oregon trail in Wyoming and Nebraska. The times were fond memories and priceless to their growing up and appreciating nature and all it had to offer.
My family spent quality family time that is so needed in this day and age hiking, grilling, and camping at these state parks. Please don't close them.
My Mother, Step-father, brother, children and grandchildren have enjoyed fishing the Hennepin canal for many years. My granddaughter at 3yrs old caught her very first fish in the canal and every year we spend many summer days fishing the canal and adding to the memories of our time together on this waterway. This is truly a very valuable Illinois asset, please don't let it slip away due to state politics and poor money management.
My husband and I, who are in our 50's and 60's love to walk the trails in as many state parks as we can. That kind of walking is so nurturing to our hearts and minds and not like walking a side walk in come community. The state parks are a must for families staying in touch with each other. Dad's with their kids, teaching them to build fires, cook outside, fish, and mom's get to show their kids that they can be taken from the home and will be like pioneer woman, instilling in both their boys and girls that women are tough and can still function away from the stoves and washers and dryers and even telephones and all can just create memories together. We have done this and it has let even our grandchildren see that we are still excited about nature and science and to bring great discussions that fill the generation gaps. Please keep open the State Parks in Illinois, or the American Dream will die even more through all the change that has taken place in the past 8 years! Thank you so much for listening Michelle & Bill Scott
I FISH THEIR ON SUNDAY EVERY SUNDAY I a birthday party their
Our family often enjoys picnics and walking the trails of our local parks. Thay are an important part of what keeps us together and healthy.
Lowden State Park & the Blackhawk statue have always been a family favorite. I have taken many people out there - including some of my visiting European relatives. When my son comes home for a visit once or twice a year, we always go visit Blackhawk. And it's a great place to birdwatch! Castle Rock is such a peaceful place to visit - and peace is something we all need in this crazy world !
My family, friends and myself have been going to the state parks such as Lowdens in Oregon and Castle Rock State park for thirty years. My parents have been going to lowdens Campground for about fifty years. We bring revenue into the state that way as well by being tourists. Loving the outdoors
I have been to the Blackhawk Statue many times. It is a tribute to all AMERICAN INDIANS that once lived in this area. It is a historical site and should not be closed just for that reason alone!!!!!
while not Illinois residents any longer, i grew up in Northern Illinois and have fond memories of many trips to the Channahon park, and a have a long family history with the Oregon parks...My father actually played at castle rock when it was a private residence in the early 1900's, and I remember his stories about area, and the blackhawk statue growing up. What fun when i was able to pass those stories on to my children on trips back to Illinois to these parks...a small link to a grandfather they would never know.
I truly enjoy all the nature....like watching the deer feed on the grass. A snake swimming in the water. The water spilling over the dam....fantastic!!!
Our kids are in scouting, and several of the parks listed here offer camping. I simply can't fathom that the Governor can't find the funds to keep these parks open.
My daughter has crossed county skied here with her friends along with camped for the weekend. I meet friends here for the day and my friends drive 2 hours to get here. My son and his friends have run the stairs for cardio reason while in track. And now I look forward to taking my 8 month old grandson when he gets older to the park to see Blackhawk Statue and have wienie roast ands make smores.
This summer I brought two children to a park in Oregon who have not had much experience outdoors. They were able to have many first time experiences for which they enjoyed greatly.
I believe parks should remain open for family gatherings.
I have chaperoned many field trips to parks within the state sponsored by the ISGS. Myself and other attendees have enjoyed the relaxation and learning experience that these state parks offer.
My family and I are regular campers and outdoor visitors. I have personally been to Lowden State Park on several occasions through out my life. It is a well maintained park and my family has always have a great time there.
