Protect Florida Muscovies

Ocala's Tuscawilla park is planning to kill over 200 muscovy ducks due to overpopulation.  If responsible methods had been taken long ago to educate the public about the dangers of feeding wildlife this would never had happened.  Now that officials have allowed the problem to grow, they want to take the easy way out and perform a mass slaughter.  This is a sad story that happens all too often due to muscovies being deemed a 'nuisance' species  and not afforded any protection under the law.  Yet, muscovies are a long standing, and beneficial species to Florida!  They control pest populations, and are a beautiful and intelligent animal.  By signing this petition, you will tell the Tuscawilla park in Ocala to halt its plans to kill these birds and instead institute education programs that allow for natural flock management through attrition and willing exit to seek other food supplies. For the long term, this petition asks that Florida officials change the Mucovy's legal status to make it a protected Florida species.

UPDATE: Tuscawilla Park has agreed to relocate the muscovies under threat!   Please keep signing to help get the laws changed permanently so that mass killings can never happen again!
