SAY NO TO A MUSEUM OF HUNTING!

On the Prealpina Newspaper of Aug. 31, 2008 there is an article whose title is:

"A Museum of Hunting is opening near Varese

The museum of Timeless Animals"

On September 21st in the palace hosting the town hall of Comerio, Varese(Italy) an exposition of stuffed animals and hunting trophys will be opened to the public.

Such unique exposition was possible thanks to two donations which were welcomed by the Town Council's  Administration, who decided to dedicate it an adequate space.

The collectin is composed of the donation of Mariuccia Borghi, followed by the donation of Bruna Bossi Brunella.

The article can be found at this address:

The article carries on by praising hunting, in paricular one of the two hunters (who has deceased) whose collection of stuffed corpses has been donated to the Town Council  to be exposed in this museum.

It is stated over and over again how hunters respect nature and animals (!) and how such exposition will be instructive for "the kids".

Let's express our opinion about this hunting publicity held up by the Town Council, both to the Mayor, to the alderman of culture, and to the Editor of the newspaper "La Prealpina".

The translation of the letter in Italian which will be sent is as follows, if anybody is interested in sending the italian message directly to the targets:

Dear Sir,

I write you in regard to the opening of an exposition of stuffed animals and hunting trophys in the Town Hall of Comerio (Varese, Italy).

Considering that

  • hunting is by definition the killing of harmless beings for purpose of entertainment,
  • it is a violent and bloody activity
  • it is dangerous for people: whoever lives in the countryside or in the mountains lives under siege for 9 months a year, under  continuous risk of being shot, and no more in control of their own property, since armed individuals may enter his/her own property also without consent;
  • it is highly uneducational to make hunting appear,to the eyes of people, especially to kids and childres, as something positive, since it teaches that it is fair to prey on the weak.
The undersigned ask the Town Council of Comerio to avoid making publicity for the activity of hunting with such expositions.

Sincerely,
Name, Surname,
Town,Country

Egregio signore,
in merito all'apertura nel palazzo municipale di Comerio (VA) di una mostra di animali imbalsamati e trofei di caccia.
Considerato che
- la caccia è, per definizione, uccisione di esseri indifesi per divertimento;
- si tratta sempre e comunque di un'attività violenta e sanguinaria;
- è pericolosa per le persone: chi vive in campagna o in montagna vive per 9 mesi all'anno sotto assedio, con il continuo rischio di essere impallinato, e non è più padrone a casa sua perché individui armati possono entrare nella sua proprietà privata anche senza il suo consenso;
Distinti saluti.
