Pain knows no time.

September as "Pain Awareness Month"

Target:
Mark R. Warner, Governor of Virginia, Chairman, National Governors Association
Sponsored by:
Make September Pain Awareness Month, in every state. To show that prolonged pain destroys the quality of life. It can erode the will to live, at times driving people to suicide. To show the physical effects are equally profound. We can then request the rest of the world to do as we, and bring awareness to every country.
Make September Pain Awareness Month, in every state. To show that prolonged pain destroys the quality of life. It can erode the will to live, at times driving people to suicide. To show the physical effects are equally profound. We can then request the rest of the world to do as we, and bring awareness to every country.
Make September Pain Awareness Month. To make the public in each state aware of the effects pain has on the society as a whole. And to make the following known:
 1. Pain is one of our nation's most serious health problems. An estimated 50 million Americans live with chronic pain caused by various diseases or disorders and each year nearly 25 million Americans suffer with acute pain.
2. Medical knowledge and tecnology exist to relieve or greatly ease pain, but most pain goes untreated, UNDER TREATED, or improperly treated; and the majority of healthcare professionals are still unaware of how to treat pain effectively. Most people with pain, including those at the end of their life, get little relief or no relief.
3. People who suffer from chronic pain are too often stigmatized and marginalized and often not informed about their right to effective pain assessment and management.
4. The American Chronic Pain Association (ACPA) has over 500 support groups available in over nine countries.
5. ACPA through Pain Awareness Month, will create public awareness and facilitate cooperative efforts among verious organizations with an interest in the many aspects of pain and address the many obstacles and issues that living with chronic pain create.
6. These organizations seek to increase awareness surrounding the under treatment of pain; and on the state level a council will be set up with multidisciplinary group of health care professionals, consumers, and other interested persons, who will serve as an advocate for people experiencing chronic, acute and cancer pain.
7. To make the "Pain Care Bill of Rights" be not just a pirce of paper but one that is endorsed by each state.
**"The Pain Care Bill of Rights"**
As a Person with Pain, You Have:
*The right to have your report of pain taken seriously and to be treated with dignity and respect by doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals.
*The right to have your pain thoroughly assessed and promptly treated.
*The right to be informed by your doctor about what may be causing your pain, possible treatments, and the benefits, risks and costs of each.
*The right to participate actively in decisions about how to manage your pain. *The right to have your pain reassessed regularly and your treatment adjusted if your pain has not been eased.
*The right to be referred to a pain specialist if your pain persists.

I live in Mississippi, and we are treated the worst by doctors, When I go to the doctor in another county they say we have so many people from their, I wonder why. I don't know if law enforcment has threatend doctors, not to prescribe pain meds, "in his county" or what but it is pitiful! They give it to these older people that are low incomed on medicare, That would not take any of "them ol' pills" and they sell it to the younger ones that do have REAL pain issues. I have been told so many times, your young, your beautiful, you do not need pain meds, I broke my back for Gods sakes, ya think!! I finally told a doctor, the grave yard is full of young people. Pain does not discriminate against, age, race, religion, money, or anything else!!!!! It can ruin a life. Ya know I thought is was my county, but it is not it is my country, b/c it is all the same. Older people were not raised on all the poison's that are put in out food and drinks, that we have been raised on and then later find out,, oh yeah, btw that stuff can kill or it causes cancer. I too have fybromiagia, I hurt from my neck to my shoulder, from my shoulder to my back, in my hip and about a month ago it is going down into the ball of my foot. We need help! Put Mississippi on the map for recognizing september is pain month. I was told by a doctor that it is illegal to deny someone in pain, help with it! But doctors were I'm from are scared to death to write rx's b/c of officials, so the ones hurting have to find relief else where. How sick is that!!!

I, as well as at least 105,000 other Virginians struggle with fibromyalgia. Yet, May has NOT been recognized as National Fibromyalgia Awareness Month, and September has not been recognized as Pain Awareness Month. For those of us struggling daily with aches and pains (some of which are so bad, we cannot function), headaches, TMJ, IBS, and the related pains, PAIN IS REAL. Take action.

I suffer from Klippel Feil and I can't get doctors to help me with the pain, they just kept trying things that don't work or has no added help to my case. My doctor told me to go to ER to get medicine, because my doctor is limited on what pain medicine and how much she can give for the pain, but the ER only treats you for a couple of days at best, if they even do that. You spend hours in the ER and then most of the time they tell you to just go home and get some rest. There aren't any doctors that even know what Klippel feil is and they don't want to be bothered by looking it up. This includes my own hometown doctor, they don't want to find out what is the right treatments or how to treat the pain, and\or what the pain management possiblilties are!!!

i am a hard to treat patient, pain doesnt destroy only my life i cant do anything wwith my family its taken everything from me,even my faith, death is all thats left for me, not just for myself for my family, they could go on, they deserve something better.if i dont get help before im dead, please do something for those behind me, i beg you.most doctors hands are tied their afraid i understand that but they shouldnt be. give them the power to use the drugs that help, however not the power to take advantage. they can tell the truely needy from the drug seekers but they need the power to do so. this is what they studied for, what they trained for, please let people live.

I was born with Klippel-Feil syndrome. Many Dr.'s don't even know what this is. I try to cope with this condition through pain management. I receive cervical facets and radio frequency lesioning. The problem I face is that health insurance companies don't approve these treatments. How do they know the chronic pain I deal with on a daily basis?!!! It's time, way over due, for everyone to know that this pain is real and it's time for chronic pain sufferers to be recognized!!!

Please do not think we are flakes who don't want to work; or junkies looking for a legit high. It is past time for some recognition for this serious malady.

Sadly I too am afflicted with this disorder. Making more people aware will ensure better treatments and aggressive care.

Please help us, the people suffering from chronic pain, to obtain SSD benefits. Our children suffer from us not being asble to do things with them as we used to, but on top of that, we can not provide for them financially.
