The World Association for Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) is the world's largest network of zoos and aquariums around the world. Some members of the international aquarium and zoo industry are strongly connected to the Japanese dolphin slaughter, in that they pay top dollar for dolphins deemed suitable for commercial exploitation in dolphin shows and captive dolphin swim programs. In Taiji, live bottlenose dolphins have been sold for as much as $154,000. The dolphin massacres in Japan will continue for as long as members of the international dolphin display industry reward the fishermen with thousands of dollars for animals that are deemed suitable for commercial exploitation in captivity.
Send WAZA a letter urging them to enforce their Code of Ethics and expel the Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums (JAZA) from their organization. Furthermore, WAZA must expel all other facilities that have purchased dolphins from the dolphin drive hunts.

Dear Mr. Dick,
I recently attended a screening of the film The Cove and have learned about the brutal dolphin slaughter taking place in Taiji, Japan. By purchasing dolphins captured during this brutal practice, the Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums (JAZA) is violating WAZA code of ethics and therefore must be expelled.
Furthermore, WAZA should expel all other facilities that have purchased dolphins from dolphin drive hunts.
We signed the "Stop the Dolphin Slaughter in Taiji, Japan" petition!

The slaughters being committed in Japan are disgusting and unmoral. You need to start enforcing your code of ethics and expel the JAZA from their organization. STOP buying dolphins from these dolphin drive hunts. STOP the slaughter now!

There is no excuse or reason good enough to continue this terrible ,despicable slaughter of intelligent creatures. Stop it now. It is to the everlasting shame to the Japanese people and culture that they continue this barbaric practice. One slaughter was one too many.

Please help stopping dolphin slaughtering. I'm 10 years old and I want my kids and grand children to see dolphins in wild. If you let this small Japanese town kill 230,000 dolphins a year, there will be no dolphins left in ocean in less than 100 years. This has to stop.
It should be illegal to kill dolphins in the first place, then US should put pressure on Japanese government to ban from selling the mercury contaminated dolphin meat to public.
Please, do something to stop Taiji fisherman to slaughter thousands of dolphins.
As a kid who will face more serious environmental issues when I grow up, you, grown ups, can do something to help us cope with what you have done wrong and what you haven't done right. This is the time and your opportunity to do something right for the future generation.
Please.
please.
Please.

I am astounded that in this day and age there is still the ignorance in our world to allow this type of inhumane act to occur! Leave it up to us humans to decide that we are the only important species on the planet. I sincerely hope that the ones with the power to stop this use that power and stop it!!!

Do you have a conscience? Cetaceans are sentient beings; to slaughter them is like slaughtering our own family members. I live in San Diego where SeaWorld is BIG.... I will not support any aquairiums or zoos which train or exhibit cetaceans. It is torture for them while they are there and torture for them to be removed from the wild.

I think "The Cove" is one of the most horrific things I've ever seen on film, and any association with the people perpetrating the atrocities committed in Taiji is something that cannot be abided by any organisation that purports to be acting in the interests of animals.
Please do the right thing and place an embargo on any marine life sourced from Japan. Clearly they have no respect for this beautiful part of our ecosystem.

I am so disturbed, disgusted and outraged by the reality of the slaughter of dolphins and the selling of some to dolphin shows out of Taiji, Japan. I've just finished watching "The Cove" and have been empowered to let my voice and my family's voice be heard, to donate and to take part in helping the atrocity get noticed by citizens all over the world, the government agencies that should be banning and penalizing and arrested all those involved in these practices. It was a very uncomfortable movie to watch which makes its powerful message even more important to share with any and everyone. I support WWF, HSUS and other wildlife conversation efforts and wholeheartly and doggedly support this effort. May compassion and mercy for these creatures be what brings this plight to an end. God Bless all the efforts of those involved in this movie. What is the status of dolphins for the new Georgia Aquarium? I will find out now as I'm a member and will not support this ridiculous and unnecessary addition. FYI -- the GA owners, etc say this was the MOST asked for addition to their facility and that is why they are building it -- where is they're sense of conservation? Their (Aquarium biologists, etc)knowledge and expertise should have taken precedence over what potentially uninformed visitors wrote on their exitting suggestion forms.

It's just wrong!!! The human race is a cancer to this earth. We are the pests not the dolphins. I refuse to support Sea World or any other aquariums. I will protest and get the word out to as many as possible. I think all Americans should refrain from eating fish that comes from the ocean. A small sacrifice to make for dolphins.

I had no idea that this kind of inhumane thing was taking place. I think that it is absolutely disgusting what the Japanese are doing to these dolphins! These dolphins are helpless against us humans! They have never hurt a human and they trust humans and look at what the humans are doing to them. I hope all of those that are killing these dolphins get mercury poison and die from it. That is what they deserve!

To Japanese Dolphin Hunters: As a medical student, I've been lectured about the terrible neurological and systemic effects mercury toxicity has on adults, and the congenital defects and malformations it can cause in newborns. If your moral compass isn't strong enough to make you stop this inhumane practice, than your desire for self-preservation should be. You should educate yourselves on these issues before dismissing those who object to your practice as racist or insensitive to your traditions; they may in fact be saving your health and/or the health of your loved ones.

Animals should not be kept in captivity. Dolphins can be visited on open sea so that they decide when to show up or not. Zoos should be innovative, creative.. they can come up with other activities that makes them profitable.

My family and I spent a few days in San Antonio to see the sights and spent a day at Sea World but after we watched The Cove and doing a little research of our own, my family and I will no longer participate in these activities now knowing the abuse and killing that is taking place to these beautiful creatures. In my heart I always felt that it was wrong to hold these dolphins in captivity but now that I have more knowledge on what takes place just to capture ONE dolphin and while thousands more are being slaughtered everyday my family and I hope that you find it in your hearts as well to help these majestic creatures in every way that you can, you know that it is wrong and have the power in YOUR hands to make a difference, even my 5 year old daughter knows this. Hopefully, we can now spread the word and this will make a difference.
