Join an international coalition of attorneys, scientists, and animal advocates in opposing the proposed construction of a massive facility in Puerto Rico for the purpose of breeding primates for use in painful and traumatic laboratory experiments.
The proposed facility in Guayama City will, according to plans, breed many thousands of highly intelligent, sensitive macaques for export to research facilities in the United States and around the world, and potentially for on-site and/or local experimentation as well.

In 2007, the National Academy of Sciences published a report calling on the Environmental Protection Agency to make a fundamental shift in its toxicity testing strategies away from testing on mammals and focusing increasingly on new, more accurate,not to mention, more ethical in vitro toxicity testing.

Alternative testing methods are far more accurate. For example, I saw a show in which human cells were used to test the toxicity of various animal poisons. I feel that this, coupled with people demanding more products that do NOT use animal testing, will help end this madness that has generally not helped people.
How can people be so inhuman ? Shame on Puerto Rico !!!

this is rediculous. if puerto ricans that live on the island found out about this they wouldnt allow it. i used to live there and such facilities were not wanted on the island. the person who is in charge of this protest should contact the news papers over there
Animal abuse is an increasing problem among our nation, and its your job to put an end to it. You may not think your signature counts but it DOES and if we all pull together this inhumanity will someday come to a hault.Until then all we can do is PRAY and get INVOLVED. Such arrogance! Clean up your act before you propose to build a facility for the purpose of breeding thousands of primates. Due to your history of negligence, poor oversight, control and follow-up, Puerto Rico now has a problem with wild, non-native and dangerously viral monkeys, descendants of your lab monkeys which now endangers the lives of our citizens. Have you forgotten the origins of Yellow Fever and Malaria! How dare you bring these monkeys to our tropical island where mosquitos are likely to become vectors of unknown diseases. Why don't you use your funds to clean up your previous mess and collect all the monkeys that you left behind as well as their offspring that are currently running wild and spay and neuter them. STRICT CONTROL MUST BE ENFORCED IN ORDER TO PREVENT A FUTURE CATASTROPHE AND ALL INGREDIENTS THAT CULMINATES IN A POTENTIAL EPIDEMIC MUST BE EXPOSED AND ERADICATED. WE WILL NOT AND MUST NOT ALLOW PUERTO RICO TO BECOME YOUR NEW AFRICA!!! I am very upset and concerned for the poor creatures. Please be aware of their pain and consciousness of suffering for nothing than profit. It is completely useless and proven unnecessary!
