This petition is to ask for a stay of execution or clemency for Texas death row inmate David L. Wood who is scheduled to be executed by the state of Texas on August 20, 2009.
Although the crimes Wood was arrested, convicted and sentenced to die for are serious, and we sympahize with the family and friends of the victims, we feel that Wood has major claims of innocence in these crimes.
No DNA matches of Wood to any of the victims have been established. Jailhouse "snitch" testimony was used against Wood in an atempt to get a conviction, by a known "snitch". False and co-erced testimony from witnesses. No eye witness to any of the crimes. Shoddy lawyering and corruption in a broken Justice System Similar crimes were commited while Wood was imprisoned More on the case of Wood can be read here: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/568683/interview_convicted_serial_killer_david.html?cat=17
We the people of the USA and worldwide ask for a stay of execution or clemency for David L. Wood, since too many questions are unanswered.
The state of Texas cannot truthfuly agree that Wood is 100% guilty.

Look at this recent airing of ABC Primetime, this is what we are talking about how the Texas courts is full of corruption even to the point of sending an innocent man to death without much evidence

To Billy Nolen, even a forensic scientist said that the orange fibers matching was suspect because of the amount found, and almost implied Wood was framed by police. Ever seen the social experiment where social experimenters send in a man to commit a crime and all dozen witnesses have a different description? Wood is innocent. There is no scientific evidence. The El Paso Police and its court system has been found to be very corrupt, and the whole nation is barely discovering this dirty little secret.

To the person that said you went to school with Mellinda Aliniz or you are a family member . I dont believe you . I think if you knew her your opinion may be diffrent . As for evidence , The burnt ornge blanket his girlfriend testified to him owning . Fibers from his vacuum cleaner matched fibers from a burnt orangs blanket . The same fibers where found on one of the victims .A forensic chemist actually matched the fibers !His motercycle or truck where also matched by FIVE witnesses on the desiperances of these girls . READ THE COURT DOCS ! If you are againt capitol punishment just say so and present your argument .The argument that he did not do it just becuase of your personol belifes is rediculous . DONT act like there is no evidence . There IS !

I went to school with Melissa Alaniz, one of the ladies presumed murdered by David Leonard Wood, but is still missing. I feel that this case needs to be reopened and investigated more before we possibly put an innocent man to death. Please hear my plea! There is something missing here! The answer is out there!
Thank you for your time and consideration.

I may not be an expert at criminal Law but i strongly believe David is innocent. The judge need not be biased. Do we have any eye witnesses?, any DNA match at the crime seen that connects David?? The answer is no and these are key areas to look at before a life is taken away. remember we can't reverse it later after the execution.

The judge currently presiding over David's hearing on September 11, has publicly deviated from the law, it has been documented in various newspapers (google:Judge Bonnie Rangel)no justice can be insured under her discretion and would be a violation of his right to fair hearings and decisions once more.

i wasnt even born yet when all this happened, but it has affected my family tremendously, that david was convicted. we all believe that he is innocent, and according to everyone who was around when all this happened, you would believe it too had you been here to see the corruption. i saw an interview where david said, "if you dont believe me, read my case" well i did, and as someone who wasnt even born yet at that time......dude this is an innocent man. the cops and the prosecuters wanted this man to go down for someone elses crimes. that is so sad that people will let an innocent man die for something he didnt do. lets get this going people sign this petition and make the governor see the corruption we all see.

please do not take the life of an innocent man. i am a family member of one of the victims,so this case has been a major part of my life. as such, i have done my homework for a very long time on this case. serial killers are proud of their crimes, they dont deny them. also police are supposed to want the truth to come out, but in the case of david wood, they wanted people with information that could help david to shut up. i know this because i was told to shut up and NOT SPEAK TO THE PRESS on many occasions when i had information that focused away from david wood. why would police do that unless they had already decided they wanted this man to take the fall for someone elses crimes? becasue they found an easy target, thats why. DAVID LEONARD WOOD IS AN INNOCENT MAN, and the state of texas should be looking at giving him a new trial.

Our judicial system is so corupt that I am not suprised that it has taken to the day before David was assigned his execution for our "system" to say, hey stop... Maybe we should dig a little deeper into this case before we send a man to death; that may not be guilty for what he is convicted of!
Thank GOD time has come for David again, to prove his innocense. I don't beleive in putting anyone to death, not being absolutely sure that person is guilty. David has too many questions not answered through his trial. So much just doesn't add up! I am looking forward to his next trial...Maybe someone might get it right this time?! I am lucky to be a part of his fantastic family, who I know have stood beside him this whole time. Our prayers will never end

Have you read "AN Innocent Man" by John Grisham? It's a true story and will take you less than a day to read it. Then I suggest that you read the transcripts of David Woods trial. Pay attention to the physical evidence.
If you send this man to his death, you are no better than the men you murder.

Here, in England, there have been a number of crimes solved, many years after the event, through new evidence emerging, often DNA, which finally reveals the perpetrator. Equally, there have been cases where new evidence, usually DNA, has revealed wrongful conviction. The crimes in this case are indeed horrific but to kill the alleged perpetrator removes the possibility of a mistake being remedied in the future.

I feel that it is wrong to sentence someone to death, even if the person has been convicted of murder. To take someone's life because they have taken someone elses? I say let them sit for the rest of their nature life and dwell upon the actions they have taken. At their next parole hearing, have the families of the victims be there to speak their peace. But to convict someone to die, when the state cannot say for certain that the person charged with the crime is 100% guilty or innocent, is wrong no matter how you slice the pie.

Please stop killing in the name of revenge. This is not justice. It is state sanctioned murder. It is not stopping murders in the free world. Please let this man and all Death Row inmates live. Some have family that loves them and will hurt if you murder these men. As much as the victim's families hurt. Blessed are the merciful , for they shall obtain mercy.

Sirs,
Having read this case in detail in both the US and foreign press, I implore you to stay the execution of this man until all DNA and forensics leads have been examined thoroughly. Texas is rapidly claiming a reputation for bloody reputation on a par with third world and certain asian countries and this cannot be good on the bases of humanity and trade and tourism. After all, who wants to visit a country tainted with the blood of innocents?
Also, it seems that you owe it to David L Wood to be absolutely certain of his guilt and it is blatantly obvious there are anomolies that need to be answered.
For the sake of decency and humanity, stop this travesty of justice now, please

How is it possible in the year 2009 to execute a man when there is factual evidence that would clearly raise a reasonable doubt in any unbiased human beings mind as to wheather David is guily or not. This is one of those cases that months or years from now we will hear about in the news where the true murderer has been identified but only at the expense of David's life, and the toll this whole atrosity has taken on Davids family. I dont believe he is guilty of the crimes he was convicted for. I do believe the system failed when it allowed him to be sentenced to death.

Being a believer of an eye for an eye, and in support of the death penalty, It was a feeling of horror and injustice,as I read the El Paso Times dated 8/9/2009 in realizing that the so-called "Justice System" is about to put an innocent man to death, Before "we" take anothers life, shouldn't "we" have proof???? at least a shred of it?The horror was real as I realized that any one of us could be there in Mr. Woods shoes! Do not think that what the SYSTEM is about to do is anything less than cold blooded murder! Anyone that is involved in this act about to unfold will be just as guilty as the sentence that was placed on Mr. Wood. Someone told me that my words won't count and won't change anything, so I beg to differ, and pray, yes to GOD that those involved check your conscience, and I pray that you at least have SOME SORT OF PROOF! Not "oh I think it was this guy" NO, REAL PROOF! Please this mans life is just as important as those slain, maybe even more so as he is at this point "still alive".
Sincerely, Dawn Camp(just a regular person)

The death penalty is obviously not working as a deterrent - if it were, we would not have any death row inmates. So exactly what is the death penalty for? If these death row inmates really did commit these atrocities they need help - not death. Surely the prisons are there to reabilitate - not punish!! I must say that some of these inmates need to be removed from society as they are a real danger but killing them does not stop the problem but rather propels the idea that an eye for an eye is OK, and yet we claim democracy. Mmmm ... we should be able to do better than this.
