In most schools in the United States, students are required to carry multiple textbooks to and from school EVERYDAY!! It's rediculous, because of the budget cuts, teachers don't even have classroom sets of books! When students carry these books in their backpacks they are carrying at least 40 lbs. on their backs, that is some serious back damage...

It's true, I had it to do and sometimes the weight makes the journey very painful. Schools should supply lockers where students can keep books that are not needed for homework.

My child is forced to carry books to class for at least two peroids a day and is in 6th grade. at the end of the day walking home she is carring nearly all her books and it will not fit in the back pack that she has. By the time she is in highschool this is mandated and the weight is at least 40 LBS or more. We wonder why we have yound disabled people that file for SSI for back issues, take a look at what our children have on their backs and some up to a mile from the school because there is no bus. Not everyone has the luxery to drive their kids to and from school or to be on a bus route. These children are growing and their backs are being harmed from the school making them carry such heavy loads every day that they are in school.
