Support American Clean Energy and Security Act

Target:
United States Senators

The Senate must act decisively to protect our communities; we are concerned about the social, environmental, political and economic costs that mean not action to promulgate an effective Law to fight Global Warming. To mention some aspects, we are concerned because:

In Public Health, the increase in temperature makes us more vulnerable to cardiac diseases; it brings about respiratory problems and increases to the levels of ozone at ground level, accelerating asthma attacks. The high temperatures also increase the propagation of vectors that transmit diseases of infectious character such as dengue and malaria.

On the Environment, the increase of the temperature of the planet: increases precipitations and the intensity and occurrence of climatologic phenomena; it causes the wind back and disappearance of glaciers overflowing glacial lakes and increases the annual variation of the volume in the rivers; it acidifies the oceans destroying habitats and species; it erodes the coasts; and it causes loss of biodiversity, among others.

In the Economy, the cost of not acting is reflected today in an increase of prices, for example: of energy by heat waves; in the increase of real estate insurance premiums against the risk of occurrence of intense natural phenomena that cause disasters; in the loss of agricultural crops by the extreme and unexpected climate changes.

The Inter-governmental Panel of Experts on Climate Change (PECC) estimate that there will be 150 million refugees in the year 2050, due mainly to the purposes of coastal floods, coastal erosion and the agricultural upheavals, this compromises the border security. In conclusion, the tendency is to the exponential sum of problems if we do not act now. Please, send this letter to your Senators so that they approve the Law and guarantee us a prosperous present, healthy and ecological balanced for a sustainable future.

Common Ground for Conservation%u2019s America Verde Alliance initiative will send this letter to the Senator, in the name of all those subscribed.

Dear Senator,

The subscribed owners, leaders, members, volunteers and constituents of our businesses and organizations, we urge you to support the project of the American Clean Energy and Security Act.

Our nation deserves an efficient and effective energy legislation that assures us a more healthy and prosperous future. We deserve to be world-wide leaders in the practice of a low carbon economy, able to stop global warming, to generate jobs in clean energies and that form the bases to reduce our dependency on oil and, consequently, increase the energy security of the nation.

It has taken us a long time to agree that Global Warming is a certain fact. Our economic crisis can be worsened if we allow Global Warming to cause more damage. We have the opportunity to live in a healthy and ecologically balanced atmosphere and to improve our economy generating jobs that lead us to a low carbon economy. This is the moment for voting for sustainability. Please support the project now.

I am all for cleaner air & cleaner environment but the Global Warming is not caused by humans or is there anything we can do about it getting warmer? The Sun is the cause and we cannot control the Sun! Yes we can clean up the Earth in a lot of ways like finding alternate energies, cut waste, improve on what we have, but I cannot support the Global Warming Agenda!

You were in such a hurry to declare war and to spend tax money on war profiteers and military contractors with no oversight. The Republicans were in a hurry to do damage. It would be great to see our Congress work for us this time instead. Please be in a hurry to do the right thing for Americans. Please stop partisan bickering and unprofessional squabbling. Please stop spending your time opposing and start doing some positive work on problem solving. If you won't work to solve problems, we need different representation.

It's important for us to wean away from carbon sources of energy for a whole variety of reasons, mentioned in the petition. The data is clear, and although our leaders have been woefully inadequate and incompetent in regards to clean, green energy, we have to get this done even if it is in spite of our leadership. If we can't count on our Congress to represent our best interests, we need all new representation in both bodies of Congress. If we cannot count on our Senators and Representatives to deal competently and honestly with a topic this serious, we cannot trust them at all. In six years from 2010 we can have entirely new members of Congress. They have about a year to begin to persuade us they can get the job done. We've had terror attacks, economic meltdown, no oversight on the wars, and a completely plundering and pillaging business environment. Now it's all going to change - one way or another and we can't accept any more excuses. No more 'second chances' for these people.
