Support New York State Family Dairy Farms

Target:
New York State Local Food Consumers
New York State's family dairy farms are in great risk of bankruptcy due to unfair business practices. Our local dairy farms provide healthy, vitamin-rich dairy products. They treat animals humanely and with compassion. Their product is created locally and is sustainable. Locally means that our dairy products do not have to travel far. This means that our dairy products retain more vitamin content and it helps the environment since less fuel is used for shipping. We do not want our dairy products to come from Mexico and China who often have lower health standards. Our local dairy farms also support a wide range of local businesses contributing significantly to our state's economy. Please join me in supporting our local dairy farmers who are committed to healthy produce and practices. Thanks!

We, the undersigned, hereby request that Governor Paterson and the New York State Legislature provide immediate financial relief to New York dairy farms. Every dollar given to dairy farms is multiplied 12 times in the economy as they support a broad spectrum of local businesses. New York is the 3rd largest dairy producing state. Dairy farming is the #1 industry in New York contributing $7 billion to our state's bottom line. We are losing our state's dairy farms at a catastrophic rate due to unfair pricing. They are being paid 1970s wages at 2009 cost of living.
The loss of New York dairy farms will devastate our state's economy and force us rely to on dairy imports from foreign countries including China. Foreign dairy imports displaced domestic sales at a record high this year.We cannot outsource our ability to make food. We cannot lose our footing in our own agricultural marketplace. We must support our viable, valuable state industry until a fair pricing system is in place.
