The father of a transgendered daughter has threatened to place her in a mental institution to crush her hopes of undergoing hormone treatments.
The 11-year-old girl from Berlin, identified as Alexandra, is coming dangerously close close to being medically treated as if she has a mental disorder.
Equally as horrifying, she may also be taken away from the custody of her supportive mother at the advice of her divorced father.
The Berlin Youth Office is supporting Alexandra's father hoping that the little girl will be forced to go through puberty as a male.
The International LGBTQ Youth and Student Organisation has stated that they are deeply concerned for Alexandra.
"The institutionalization of this child violates many human rights instruments, including the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the European Convention on Human Rights," IGLYO said in a statement.
Tell the Berlin Youth Office: Don't institutionalize transgendered girl!
We the undersigned would like to express out outrage in the Berlin Youth Office's support of institutionalizing an 11-year-old girl for identifying as female. Her choice to undergo hormone treatments should not be treated as a mental illness by her parents or by any institution.
By placing Alexandra in a mental institution Berlin Youth Office is obviously infringing upon her rights.
The idea that this girl has a mental disorder is atrocious. Promoting such intolerance is detrimental to Alexandra and all transgendered children of Berlin.
We urge you to reconsider your stance on the matter and not allow Alexandra to be institutionalized.
