Demand Just Policing in Zimbabwe

In Zimbabwe, traffic often comes to a standstill because of police road blocks. That leaves people unable to get to work and do their shopping. It also hurts the livelihood of taxi drivers and other transportation professionals. Often, these transportation workers have to bribe corrupt police just to get on down the road.

But when a contingent of transportation workers held protests against the roadblocks, Zimbabwe police responded with excessive force. Arrests were made indiscriminately, and the police set their dogs on a number of protesters.

Please join me in asking the Zimbabwe Police Republic to conduct a full investigation into the use of excessive force against tranportation protesters.

Dear Zimbabwe Police Republic:

It is really disturbing to read that Zimbabwe police have made it their business to put up unnecessary road blocks. It has been reported that the purpose of these road blocks, in some cases, is to extort bribes from hardworking transportation professionals. Even more disturbing is the news that, when these workers protested, your police responded with excessive and violent force. Dogs were sent to attack protesters. Arrests were indiscriminate. Please fully investigate the use of excessive police force in the recent protests.
