Tell Marco Rubio: Commit to Exemptions from Abortion Bans for Cases of Rape and Incest

Marco Rubio, like many Republicans, is fighting against abortions. During the first Republican presidential debate, though, he revealed an extreme position. He stated he never advocated for abortion exceptions in any case, even when a woman's life is in danger or when her pregnancy is the result of rape or incest.

In a follow-up interview with NBC on Sunday, he said, “I personally and deeply believe that all human life is worthy of the protection of our laws,” He also stated, “That’s why the issue is so hard. There is no doubt that a woman has a right to her own body, to make decisions about her own health and her future. There’s no doubt. And then there’s this other right, and that’s the right of a human being to live. And these rights come into conflict so you have to make a decision and it’s hard. I don’t say it’s easy.”

There is no reason to put the life of a fetus before the life of a woman who might die in labor, or before the mental health of a woman whose life and mental health may be damaged by carrying an unwanted child to term. Please sign the petition to urge Marco Rubio to think more carefully about his stance and to consider exceptions from abortion bans for cases of rape and incest.
