Pledge to Save a Turtle Hatchling

You can now save one turle hatchling for 2,000 Care2 credits.

Six of the seven species of sea turtles worldwide are endangered or threatened. In many countries, turtle eggs and meat are sold illegally on the black market for human consumption. Accidental capture in fishing nets, coastal development, and plastic pollution are other threats to these marine reptiles.

Help save one sea turtle hatchling at Colola Beach, Mexico by supporting community-based conservationists who protect the black turtles (also known as Pacific green turtles) who nest on this beach. The project, run by the University of Michoacan, maintains a hatchery where the eggs are protected from humans and animals until hatching, when they are released to the ocean.

SEE Turtles, part of The Ocean Foundation, supports sea turtle conservation programs around the world through ecotourism, volunteer & educational programs, advocacy, and financial support. This gift will be part of the group's Billion Baby Turtles project, which aims to save a billion turtle hatchlings over the next decade.
