"Dear Mr Grenet

You have currently suffered a loss of 500 000 euros from your main sponsor, (Afflelou) because you chose to incorporate Corrida in the Fete de Bayonne this year. This amounts to half the budget for the Fete and a substantial amount of money towards your city.

As you have noticed, the international community is not going to sit back and allow the abuse of innocent animals neither. We call upon you to stop with this madness immediately and to become an inspiration.

You are aware that this is NOT a french tradition and is a violation of the Law Grammont of 1850 which prohibits the abuse of animals. The law slightly changed in 1951 and 1959 to allow for abuse when it is traditional, however this is not the case in France. Even if the law never existed, we are calling upon you to please take the plea of these animals and ensure that this torture stops NOW.

We know you can do it.

The city of Bayonne in the South West of France seems to think that it is necessary to be torturing animals in the name of "tradition" in the 21st century. On the 28 July 2012 people will gather to watch the torture and killing of innocent animals. We are calling on Mr Jean Grenet, the Mayor of Bayonne to stop with the Corrida (killing of the bulls) immediately.

Many cities in France and Spain have stopped with bull fights and we ask Mr Grenet to take his city into the future by setting high standards and becoming a good example for the rest of the world to follow. Yes Mr Grenet, we know you can do it! STOP the CORRIDA.

Attached is a video of the abuse suffered by activists in the SE of France in October 2011. This shows the barbaric nature of the type of people who support the Corrida. The Mayor, Police and public abused people who tried to save the animals. The situation has gotten out of control in France, we need to stop this now."
