Enforce the Law on Bird Slaughter in Cyprus

  • by: Ven Z

Cyprus is a stopping place for hundreds of millions of migrant birds moving between Africa, Europe & Western Asia each year, during their difficult & very tiring flights across the Mediterranean.

Illegal shooting & trapping of birds (with lime-sticks & mist-nets) is a persistent problem in Cyprus.

15 million birds are shot & trapped illegally each year, & the numbers continue to increase dramatically... 150 different species are effected each year, 78 of these are members of endangered species.

The Blackcap bird is specifically targeted illegally & is sold on as a delicacy know in Cyprus as Ambelopoulia.

Hunting is considered a pass-time, adventure or sport & hunters are ready to shoot at anything that moves.

Bird trapping is banned on the island, but poachers continue to break the law.. Destroying our ecology & causing death to hundreds of millions of the world's migratory birds.

The birds will be destroyed into extinction soon!!

Please demand that the 'president of Cyprus' takes effective action to stop this unnecessary slaughter & mindless massacre, by inflicting harsher punishment for illegal shooting & trapping of birds. Stricter punishment reduces crime.
