The one-child policy in China has led to the discrimination of females. Sons care for their parents as they age. Consequently, parents want a son. Girls have been abandoned by the millions since the institution of the one-child policy in 1980.
The policy has also been the cause of gender selective abortions, forced abortions and infanticide. Some mothers have died due to a forced abortion. Many are performed in the seventh, eighth and ninth month of pregnancy.
