BARBARIC TORTURE OF A BEAUTIFUL FOX
The organisation Animal Responsibility Cyprus (ARC/Kivotos) once again strongly condemns this recently revealed outbreak of barbarism against a defenceless animal. How long will the tax-paying citizens be confronted with these horrors? Where are those who are paid by taxpayers to do their job by tracking down and prosecuting such criminals?
We are currently witnessing a catalogue of savagery. What effect has this on the moral fabric of our society? Such perpetrators are known to commit family violence with no remorse. Their children sit next to our children in school.
Our organisation wants to send a strong reminder to the President of the Republic of Ghandi’s saying that the moral progress and culture of a country is judged by the way its people treat their animals . Is it any surprise that Cyprus recently hit the number 1 spot for cruelty tourist destination?
The case of a citizen dragging dog behind his car until it died; the cat with wooden stakes driven through its body; the dogs left in a cage devouring another dog because they were starving; the death of two dogs with bodies left to rot in an illegal boarding kennels. These are some recent examples, photographs of which have travelled internationally through Facebook. It is time to take immediate and drastic measures.
We asked the President to implement his promise to create a post such as Commissioner/Coordinator for Animal Welfare. Unfortunately so far we still await a response.
We once again call upon the Ministers of Interior and Agriculture, the Game Department, the President of the Hunting Federation and all concerned government agencies to finally assume their responsibilities. Where are the prosecutions? Where are the fines and jail sentences?
