Encourage Steve Bullock to continue fighting Concealed Weapons on Campus

The state House narrowly defeated Senate Bill 143 in a 51-49 vote with all the Missoula representatives voting against it, save for Brad Tschida, a Republican.

Governor Bullock vetoed a bill in 2013 which would have overridden Montana State University Board of Regents power to control firearms in Montana Universities. The fight is not over yet. Join me in congratulating Governor Bullock on his decision to veto this bill and encourage him to continue to keep concealed weapons of our campuses. Montana has a wonderful University system with a well-trained and conscientious staff. The University of Montana has an independent professional Police force, this should be protection enough for our students and staff. Allowing students to carry concealed weapons will not improve campus safety. While fully supporting the rights of citizens to bear arms, we need to continue to support common sense legislation that saves lives. By signing this petition you can send a message that guns don't belong on college campuses.
Governor Bullock,
We the undersigned, would like to congratulate you on vetoing the 2013 bill that would allow the carrying of concealed weapons on Montana College campuses. Your efforts have undoubtedly prevented legislation which not only would take power from the Board of Regents, but would ultimately have disastrous results. Common sense is usually something we haven't come to expect from Government. We would like to thank you and encourage you to continue fighting legislation that would deteriorate safety on campuses in Montana. We also hope that our petition will lend voice to the people that oppose this type of legislation in other states as well. Montana has been a great advocate for gun rights; allowing concealed weapons in our colleges and universities however, makes no sense whatsoever. Thank you for governing with the best interest of your constituents in mind on this particular issue. We encourage you to continue protecting safety and common sense on our Montana University campuses.

If he elects to not address the legislation within 10 days of official bill transmittal from the legislature, HB 298 will become law without his signature(Eger).
