On May 9, 2015 Doug Hagler tied his defenseless 13 month Siberian Husky to a tree in his front yard and repeatedly stabbed her with a 3 foot sword while she screamed mercifully for help. The sounds of Koda's screams and her final breaths were captured on a 911 tape by a neighbor who witnessed this horrific act of violence. Doug Hagler was arrested May 10, 2015 on one count of animal cruelty and released less than 24 hours after the incident on a $5000 bond. Animal abuse is not exclusive to any one city, county or state: it's a tragic epidemic that is growing like cancer throughout our entire country. As a public, we need to become a stronger voice for those who cannot speak. We are a concerned community. We are a concerned Nation. We are the neighbors of this man. We are the distraught 911 dispatcher who was the unfortunate recipient of this call. We are the witnesses that can never erase this image from our minds. We are the police officers who had to arrest the accused. We feel strongly that there is a direct correlation with animal abuse and other forms of family violence. In addition to causing pain and suffering to animals, animal abuse can be a sentinel indicator and predictor - one of the earliest "red flag" warning signs of concurrent or future violent acts. We believe there is a link and we want to be protected from this man. Once again we ask that Doug Hagler be punished to the fullest extent of the law according to Susie's Law - House Bill 1609 which is a Class H Felony. We implore that you do not allow for a plea bargain or a lighter sentence and that Doug Hagler stand trial for his actions. We stand strong behind you in your fight for Justice for Koda.
