Keep our home school assignments based on proximity of students' residence! Save neighborhood schools!

The members of the CMS school board are currently reviewing the CMS pupil assignment policy. There is an idea in the CMS Policy Committee to give up the current principle of a home school based on proximity of a student's residence. They will be voting on this SOON. The idea is that MAYBE by mixing students from low-income and high-income areas the overall student achievement within CMS can be improved. They have been met will little to no opposition on this thus far. Let them know that you WILL NOT stand for your children to be bused up to and over an hour each way to attend a school outside of your neighborhood school. School achievement is largely determined by parent and community involvement and will be very difficult to maintain if the school is outside of your neighborhood. Additionally, the school day is long enough - forced busing will take more time out of your already busy days.

Parents - your voice needs to be heard before it is too late! Let the board know you will not send your students on a bus to an outside school. Let them know you will find other means to educate your children, by moving districts, home-schooling, private schools, or grouping together and hiring private teachers.

Please take a moment to sign this petition regarding the pupil reassignment the CMS board of education. Let your voice heard - express your desire to continue to have a guiding principle that bases home schools on proximity to student's residence! Let them know you will not tolerate busing!
