A dog who was shot twice by a Riverside County Sheriff's deputy in Eastvale, Calif.,
not only survived, but has been returned to his owner,
reported Friday's publication of the Press-Enterprise.
The dog, a pit bull named "Bubba," was shot twice, once in the head,
after he was released from a suspect's vehicle on March 2; the dog was let out of a vehicle
which held two men who were being questioned about a burglary.
According to a release from the sheriff's office, the deputy was forced to defend himself
after being charged.
Though the dog was injured and knocked down by the shots, the deputy noticed that
he still had motor functions and decided to call for assistance, rather than euthanizing the dog.
Paramedics with the fire department responded and transported the injured dog
to the Animal Emergency Clinic in Grand Terrace where he underwent surgery.
John Welsh, spokesperson for Riverside County animal services, told the Press-Enterprise:
“It’s pretty amazing,
“A lot of times they don’t make it.
According to the sheriff's release, the two men who were pulled over were arrested
after stolen goods were found inside of their vehicle. The men were identified
as Salvadore Lopez, age 38 of Fullerton, and Saege Hall, age 25 of Canyon Lake.
According to the Press-Enterprise, the dog has been reunited with his owner, it is unclear exactly who the owner is.
