STOP PRISON CORRUPTION AND PRISONER ABUSE!! TREAT INMATES LIKE HUMANS!

When you were a child and going to school you learned about laws and history. We were taught that prison/jail existed so that men and women who made mistakes could be rehabilitated so that one day they could become an active and productive member of society. Prison/jail did not exist so that prisoners could be tortured.

Yes, it is true. These men and woman have made mistakes, some more serious than others. However, at the end of the day we are all humans. The Pledge of Allegiance says “…and JUSTICE for ALL.”

There are problems within the walls of prisons that are not the fault of the inmate. The majority of fault can be placed on the guards and the private companies that the state contracts with for supposed medical treatment to be provided to inmates. Inmates are dying because they are not given the care, medication and attention that they need. The range is issues is from something as simple as blood pressure medication to giving a diabetic insulin. Why are inmates being denied medical care on a daily basis? The answer is simple; because the guards can deny them on a daily basis.

Personally, I have met with a gentleman who was urinating pure blood, due to kidney failure. The nurse told him to drink more water and did not give him another second of time.

Not only do guards withhold medical treatment, they also start fights and pay inmates to fight with and kill other inmates. Should the chosen inmate declines the offer, he or she now must worry about who will beat or kill them on that guards behalf. Guards think that by simply saying an inmate had a psychological issue, or was a gang member that they can easily sweep these murders under the rug. The sad part is that it works, which is why the guards believe they will not be held responsible for their actions. Because of this belief that they can literally get away with murder, inmates are beaten, stolen from and raped by guards.

Further, inmates are denied not only medical care, but also food, water and toiletries as punishment when there has not been any indiscretion committed. To avoid being beaten, raped and stolen from inmates are forced to payguards so that they can go to the canteen for food and other necessities, to go to property to receive the items that inmates have received from loved ones, and the list goes on.

It is really convenient for guards to say that it is the loved ones who bring in contraband, yet it is impossible to smuggle in contraband during visitation as we are all searched and scanned before we enter. The contraband is brought in because the guards bring it in. Beyond that, guards plant things in the prisoners’ property so that they have a “legitimate” reason to place them in confinement (for whatever length of time they deem appropriate) and take away their visitations (for whatever length of time they choose).

My husband has been complaining of pain linked to a documented heart condition. He has been begging for medical treatment, and rather than indulge him and have it looked at, he is thrown into confinement and labeled a liar. He has passed out cold, lost his vision, shown signs of a heart attack, and not one finger has been lifted to ensure his health is examined. My husband has a history of heart disease. His "street" doctors have faxed over all his medical records, written letters to the facility, and begged them to treat my husband. Magically, his sick calls disappear. My husband has never been treated and is barely surviving on daily ibuprofen and prayers.

I have contacted Corison at their corporate office, was given a case number and I begged with them to help my husband. Because of my fierce advocacy for my husbands health, they yelled at me and I was hung up on. Further, guards were informed of my call, and my husband was told that if I called again they would “make sure he really had chest pains.” I also phoned the Inspector General, the Wardens and Classification Officers. I emailed all Corison's corporate employees and even Mr.Crews. I have not yet received a response.

Most recently, while I was attending visitation, a dazed man was being dragged across the yard (from mental health to medical); his pants were down to his knees, his shirt was half on and he clearly was not there. While this was going on, the supervising guard had to radio the guard dragging the man across the yard that he was being watched. Ironically, he stopped immediately and raised the inmate’s pants back up to their chest. That inmate screamed from pain before the guard shook him and continued dragging him. No matter what this inmate did to be behind a prison wall, this treatment was inhumane.

For the most part, the men and women in prison want to serve their time and go home and live a productive life as a member of society. They wish to serve their time without fear of guards killing them, torturing them, or making them disappear.

The corruption must stop; the physical and mental abuse that these prisoners endure is inhumane. The time has come for officer inflicted deaths in Florida to stop. Florida is the only state without Parole, while the rest of the country is dropping their serve time from 85% to 65%. Florida is stuck at 85%. Rather than help inmates and rehabilitate them, bigger monsters are created.

We are pleading to have our loved ones back, in one healthy piece. We seek humane treatment, medical care, and the serve time brought down yet again to 65%. We also seek that our loved ones be given food that’s edible and do not have to worry that they will get sick from consuming it, and that above all there is safety behind the walls of our prisons and jails.

The biggest criminals today are the prison guards. Please, do the right thing and stop the brutal and inhuman treatment of mankind.
