Demand China Take Action on Ivory Trade Now!

The African Elephant is heading toward extinction, estimated to be in around 15 years. Hundreds of Park Rangers are being murdered and terrorist groups are being funded by the gains. This is largely due to the hunger for ivory by China.

China was one of the countries who signed the Declaration at The London Conference on the Illegal Wildlife Trade 2014 , so that certainly gave hope for the remaining small population of wild elephants. But the world needs to  keep the spotlight focused constantly upon the Chinese Government . We must

1. Demand China take action against ivory trade now.

2. That it realises and maintains the ban so it is not just words on paper.

3. Demand it closes its ivory carving factories.

4. Destroy its entire stockpile of ivory which feeds the illegal market.

5. Punish those involved in the ivory trade.

6. Educate its consumers

The UK Government and all other Governments around the world need to make a stand and not hold back for fear of upsetting China.

If the poaching of these beautiful, intelligent creatures continues , we all lose. Imagine, a world with no wild elephants.

The African Elephant is being hunted into extinction.

This horrendous illegal trade in ivory must stop. It is the ferocious greed of the Chinese buyers  that has fuelled a multi-billion dollar market and they have to be stopped.

How can the UK Government be building stronger trading relationships with China while its Government does little to stop this Internationally banned trade in ivory. The UK Government should insist that they make tougher moves to stop the ivory trade, not just the occasional PR stunt of crushing a very small portion of its seized stockpile.  We should not be promoting further legal trade with China whilst the Chinese Government continues to allow illegal ivory trade.

The London Conference on the Illegal Wildlife Trade 2014 certainly gave hope for the remaining small population of wild African elephants but the world needs to hear directly and clearly from the Chinese Government. We must

1. Demand China to outlaw ivory now.

2. Demand it closes its ivory carving factories.

3. Destroy its entire stockpile of ivory which feeds the illegal market.

4. Punish those involved in the ivory trade.

The UK Government and all other Governments around the world need to make a stand and not hold back for fear of upsetting China.
