To quote a fellow rescuer: This is the worst I've ever seen in my 2+ years of networking Small Breed Dogs at San Bernardino City Animal Shelter. There are over 110 small breed dogs (not including the litter of 10 puppies with momma) and so many still coming in. We are in crisis mode and many dogs will be killed on or the day after their release because the shelter does not have the room to accommodate these high numbers. Many are not even listed as the shelter is overwhelmed! San Bernadino is ONE of the WORST. Shouldn't be called a shelter since they have been on the news for neglecting & abusing animals for sometime & has been on the news, yet no reform!!
We have been fighting a losing battle. There needs to be RADICAL change QUICKLY. My idea is to make ALL cats & dogs micro-chipped. If a person cannot prove they have given away or sold an animal (easily done with forms much like car registrations) then the LAST known person to own the pet is responsible for the shelter care & re-homimg fees.
All pets MUST be neutered/spayed except legitimate, responsible breeders, or private persons who micro-chip litters or who can prove the pet will NOT populate.
MANDATORY licensing for all pets (including cats). Small fee for micro-chipped & fixed pets, and triple fees for unfixed pets. The higher fee is a deterrent to not fixing the pet. Breeders can be exempt from triple fees if they micro-chip their litters.
Our throw away society MUST STOP! Innocent animals are suffering because of society's blind eye.
