Children as well as Adults Need a Safe Environment to Roller Skate

There are at least hundreds of children on the Peninsula that want to learn how to roller skate but are afraid of the busy streets or getting hurt on city sidewalks.

LAY (an organization of 3 third graders known as Liana, Athena and Yazmine (all from Daly City), who, because currently the nearest skating rink is in Redwood City, hardly get the opportunity for safe as well as healthy exercise.

Skating facilities provide adult supervision in a controlled environment, so parents can feel safe bringing the entire family or dropping off older children for a few hours of fun. Because the skating floors are free of debris and obstacles, safety gear in a skating center is optional. Safely skating outdoors, on the other hand, requires use of protective gear and an awareness of external hazards.

We ask the mayors or investors to convert one of many abandoned businesses into a
skating rink for all to enjoy. One such example is the old Tanforan Century theater in San Bruno.
