Stop the Decay of our Democracy Now!

America's voter turnout has reached record lows during the past two presidential elections, with just over half of U.S. voters participating in democracy. If we don't act now, the other half of our country's voices will not be heard. As citizens, it is imperative we see the act of voting for what it is: government "by the people." The only way to have accurate government representation is to engage every eligible citizen, by employing compulsory voting. It is the surest and most effective method to engage the people, by showing them that their individual vote matters and fostering democratic behavior overall.

Fellow US Citizen,

Below is the information needed to guide you through further investigation of the compulsory voting law.  Please feel free to solve your inquiries by exploring these statistics, and taking the time to consider supporting the numerous benefits that this policy has to offer.

What does the policy entail?

  • All eligible citizens will be compelled to vote by law.

  • The law will establish a fine of 25 dollars for those who fail to vote.

  • Voting will be regarded as not only a right but a duty for every American citizen.

Why should we support this policy?

  • As stated by Think Progress, the U.S.'s turnout has been consistently low throughout the past five decades, and at its most recent rate, was just 57.9 percent, according to The Daily Dot.

  • Out of 35 democratic nations, America was ranked 31 for voter participation by the Pew Research Center.

  • Coming from a nation that prides itself on democratic values, these statistics are downright shocking.

Would this really solve our problem?

  • Australia's turnout jumped from 58.7 to 91.4 percent when its compulsory voting law was established in 1924, says Lisa Hill of Research Gate.

  • The Netherlands achieved turnout consistently above 90 percent during the 50 year period in which they used a compulsory policy, according to Research Gate's Jonathan Louth.

It is crucial that we act now to put a stop to the low voter turnout trend.  We will save democracy and restore the dignity of our government by installing compulsory voting, and it all starts with your signature.
