Pokémon Go: Don't Partner With US Fast Food Chains!

The wildly popular mobile game Pokémon Go has exploded in the US. Parents are delighted that the game inspires their children to go on walks and explore their neighborhoods. But the social and health benefits may soon end if Pokémon Go teams up with corporations like McDonalds.

In Japan, Pokémon Go's creators teamed up with McDonalds. The fast food company's locations will host in-game "gyms" and "Poké spots." Obviously, players will feel encouraged to purchase fast food while participating in their game, even though McDonalds doesn't require a purchase.

Childhood obesity is a greater problem in the US than in Japan, and so far Pokémon Go has done a little bit to combat that. Teaming with fast food companies and encouraging kids to buy more fast food will undo the game's benefits. Please sign the petition to urge Pokémon Go's creators not to partner with US fast food chains.

I am concerned that Pokémon Go has teamed up with McDonalds in Japan. I am writing in hopes that this move won't extend to the United States.

As you know parents are delighted that the game inspires their children to go on walks and explore their neighborhoods. But the social and health benefits may soon end if Pokémon Go teams up with corporations like McDonalds. Obviously, players will feel encouraged to purchase fast food while participating in their game, even though McDonalds doesn't require a purchase.

Childhood obesity is a greater problem in the US than in Japan, and so far Pokémon Go has done a little bit to combat that. Teaming with fast food companies and encouraging kids to buy more fast food will undo the game's benefits. I respectfully urge you not to partner with US fast food chains. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider this petition.
