GOP: Recognize President Obama's Right to Nominate Scalia's Successor

  • by: Emily L.
  • recipient: Senators Mitch McConnell, Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz; Senate Republicans

Just hours after the news of the death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia on February 13, Republican Senators, including Presidential candidates Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio, were calling for President Obama to wait and let the next president nominate a successor. If he doesn't, many Senators have threatened to block his nomination.

There is simply no modern day precedent for allowing the Supreme Court to be without one justice for almost a year. There are far too many pressing issues that the Supreme Court must face in the coming year for this nomination to be delayed just because Republicans hope one of their own will be president at that time.

It is a constitutional responsibility that the President and Congress fill this vacancy as soon as they can. Please sign this petition telling Presidential candidates Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio and Senate Republicans not to get in the way of this important process.
