Tell DNR Commissioner and Min. Gov. Mark Dayton : To Stop The Nov 3rd Wolf Hunt!

The Wolf in the US seems to be under attack since the de-listing of the endangered species act.

Under any means possible to the point of extreme, as in the Wisconsin dog fighting hunt even,

The United States should be holding the Gray Wolf as a Treasure to be able to share with the future

instead of this slaughter! Why a wolf hunt? It’s not because the wolf population is exploding and we

need to “control”the wolves

Commissioner Tom Landwehr, and Governor Mark Dayton,

As you are aware, almost 80% of DNR survey respondents, including both wildlife enthusiasts and hunters, made it clear they do not want a wolf hunting and trapping season in Minnesota. We are aware the DNR is not under any legal obligation to proceed with a wolf hunt and that you have the authority to stop it. If you do not reverse course you will be personally held accountable for facilitating the legal killing of wolves - often by barbaric means - for nothing more than entertainment and trophies. Your reputations as stewards of wildlife will be forever tarnished.

Some Wolf Facts from  International Wolf Center :

In the 48 contiguous states, wolf populations are scattered. Minnesota supports about 3,000 wolves. This population seems to be increasing in numbers and in distribution. About 700 wolves live in Wisconsin and around 500 in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Isle Royale holds 19.  With the government-sponsored reintroduction of wolves into Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming and also into Central Idaho 1995 and 1996, the Greater Yellowstone Area now supports over 1,700 wolves. In addition Mexican wolves were reintroduced into Arizona and New Mexico in 1998 and the wild population is declining at around 50.

In many other countries, including Mexico, the gray wolf is long gone. ZERO

Most of the gray wolf's former habitat in these 48 states is unsuitable for wolves, and probably never will be suitable, due mainly to human encroachment.

The long-term trends in land use suggest that much of the current or potential wolf range will continue to be developed and, thus, rendered unsuitable for wolves, even in Minnesota.

It was only after gray wolves were given protection by the Endangered Species Act that wolf populations in the United States began to increase.

SO in conclusion,Let’s be clear. This is a trophy hunt for people who want pelts and something new to shoot. The wolf will not be killed for meat, but because it is the wolf. It is a trophy.

We urge you to use your authority to CANCEL the wolf hunting and trapping season immediately!
