Petition for a Huckabee/Thompson Lincoln/Douglas style debate

Who's Right?

Sen. Fred Thompson questions Gov. Mike Huckabee's record on taxes when he was a governor of Arkansas. On the other hand, Gov. Huckabee questions Sen. Thompson's commitment to protecting life and traditional marriage. The two have traded exchanges from afar. We believe that the two candidates can set an example for the other Republicans by having a civil, thoughtful and thorough debate on the issues. Both have previously expressed support for the kind historic debates that Lincoln and Douglas had when they ran for President. Will both modern-day candidates rise to the example set by their predecessors? We hope so...

Senator Thompson, Governor Huckabee, please agree to a Lincoln/Douglas-style debate.

Signed,

I'd love to see this debate. But since Fred ditched the GOP debate for Leno, and backed out of Huckabee's offer for one on one debate, I sadly think it will not happen. I looked forward to Fred getting in the race, but it didn't take long to change my mind.

Please give the American voters a chance to get to know you better - we shouldn't have to vote based on sound bites!

If done correctly, this could be an excellent opportunity for the nation to hear conservative issue clearly articulated (that both candidates believe), as well as differentiate their positions. It should be a win-win proposition.

Thompson already chickened out once, but with his campaign falling apart, he may have no other choice. Debate now!

I think it's vitally important to have a debate between these two candidates.

It would be a defining moment for both candidate... let's do it
# 28:

This would serve both candidates by enabling in depth discussion on their positions rather than 30 second souind bytes.

I hope this debate goes through. It would be very interesting and entertaining to say the least! If one of the candidates chickens out I think it would speak volumes.

Thompson declined the first offer. Let's us force his hand. Sign the petition, Huckabee and Thompson voters alike. Let's see who the real conservative is. Let's see who the real leader is.

If Sen. Thompson wants to throw around accusations, then let him do it to Gov. Huckabee's face, so that he can be answered. The invitation has already been given once, now is the time to act and give the people what they want, a real debate with substance.

Huckabee already extended a debate offer to Thompson, but Thompson never responded to it. Time for Thompson to stop ignoring it and face Mr. Huckabee one on one.

An in-depth discussion of the issues will help undecided voters decide--and there's a lot of them in the GOP.

# 5:

I would love to see an in-depth one-on-one debate of the issues so we voters can better decide who is the true conservative candidate. The large debates so far don't allow for much beyond simple sound-bites.
# 4:
4:52 am PST, Nov 7, Jane Hall, North Carolina
I am interested in hearing from Fred Thompson and Mike Huckabee. A debate would help me to clarify their specific issues.

When each candidate is willing to stand up and debate any other candidate one on one then these foolish 'raise your hand if you agree' questions will stop and the people can begin to choose a president
# 2:
5:21 pm PST, Nov 6, Andrea Aaron, Arkansas
Come on Fred! You can do it!
# 1:

We want a debate...
