Stop Construction of Signal Peak Mountain Bike Trail

This petition is to stop the construction of the Signal Peak Mountain Bike Trail. The organization, Gunnison Trails, has proposed construction of 30-35 miles of single track trail encompassing about 13,000 acres in the Signal Peak area. In this project, they are requesting $50,000 in BLM resources to be granted to them to complete the project.

Why: This trail is proposed to run through the most crucial habitat for Sage Grouse, wintering Mule Deer, and more, in Gunnison County. Adding these trails to the landscape will only add additional pressure to these animals during very crucial times of the year when risk of mortality is at its highest. While these public lands are indeed public and everybody has the right to access them, we have to give our due diligence to wildlife. With with winter being the most vulnerable time of the year for Mule Deer it is imperative that we do as much as we can to not disturb them during this time, and constructing what will be a very busy trail in the middle of their winter habitat does not agree with this.

We ask you to sign this petition to help bring awareness to Colorado Parks and Wildlife and let them know that Sportsmen do not support adding more impact to the landscape and putting more unneeded pressure on our local wildlife.

The Gunnison Wildlife Association is dedicated to ensure optimal management of public lands and conservation of the indigenous wildlife of Gunnison, Colorado.
