STOP THE DEMOLISHMENT of 106 RIVINGTON's STOOP

The stoop at 106 Rivington is about to be demolished so that a new bistro/club/lounge can be more accessible.

This has to be stopped. That stoop and all stoops are defining NYC symbols. It is part of our culture- to sit on stoops, chatting and watching the world go by. Any New Yorker can attest to the necessity of our stoops. This one has sat since approx. 1900. To the history it has witnessed, the history it has been a part of: check out this article from NYT http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/22/nyregion/the-last-jam-session-at-106-rivington.html?pagewanted=all and this from Bowery Boogie http://www.boweryboogie.com/2012/12/stoop-removal-planned-at-106-rivington-security-cameras-installed/ for more on this stoop's history. This ever changing neighborhood- the gentrification and culture loss we've suffered; even such a small piece of our landscape, we cannot afford to lose. PLEASE HELP SAVE THE STOOP AT 106. This isn't just personal- this is our neighborhood and too much has been torn down already.

Dear any one who can help,

If there is anything you can do to stop the demolition of the stoop at 106 Rivington, then please help. This quintessential symbol of NYC and LES and one of the last of its kind is about to be destroyed. 106 Rivington will have a new bar. We will adjust, but the bar owners feel it necessary to tear down 106's stoop and for what? They should have some respect for the place and the building in which the new establishment will be. There is no validity to the reasons why the bar owners want to demolish this stoop and to be frank, it is utterly unfounded and ignorant. Buildings are being torn down or altered at every turn. What could be so intrusive about a stoop that has sat for over a hundred years to a bar? Please, I implore you. Save the stoop. Save the memories. Save the history.

Sincerest Regards,

Allison B. Siegel
