GILT - Stop Selling All Exotic Skin Products

  • by: Sue Lee

The GILT retailer has come under fire by animal advocates for advertising that some of their products are made with real animal skins.  Such items include shoes made from snake skins, belts, purses and shoes made from alligator and crocodile.  The concern is that animals have to endure great pain to give up their skins for style. Read more about skinning the animals for fun at http://www.peta.org/action/action-alerts/gilt-snake-skin/?utm_campaign=060316%20PETA%20E-News&utm_source=PETA%20E-Mail&utm_medium=E-News

As the articles state, animals suffer greatly in the name of fashion and luxury. As stated, “Snakes often have their heads nailed to a tree and their skin slowly peeled off. Other snakes are bludgeoned or beaten and then pumped full of water so that workers can more easily peel their skin off.  Alligators and crocodiles are typically raised in crowed tanks or pools before being shot or having their necks hacked into.” No animals should suffer such slow and painful deaths in the name of style and luxury. Allowing such treatment of these exotic animals is a form of guilt by association by those who sells products made of their skins, like the retailer GILT.

The effort in this petition is to urge GILT to pull all exotic skin products from their inventory, despite any animal used for their skins in the name of fashion.  Whether it is the skin of a rabbit or mink for their fur or an elephant, snake or gator, no animals deserve to die such a violent death. You can help with this effort by signing and sharing this petition, adding your own comments and thoughts in defense of such exotic animals.

CEO of Gilt Michelle Peluso – I strongly urge you to pull all exotic skin products from their inventory, despite any animal used for their skins in the name of fashion.  Whether it is the skin of a rabbit or mink for their fur or an elephant, snake or gator, no animals deserve to die such a violent, slow and painful death. It has been documented that “Snakes often have their heads nailed to a tree and their skin slowly peeled off. Other snakes are bludgeoned or beaten and then pumped full of water so that workers can more easily peel their skin off.  Alligators and crocodiles are typically raised in crowed tanks or pools before being shot or having their necks hacked into.” There is never a reason to harm such exotic animals in the name of fashion and doing so is a form of guilt by association by those who sells products made of their skins like yourself.  Clear yourself of such guilt by association and stop selling exotic skin products immediately.
